OMG - I'm going to do something this summer this bod has never been challenged with. My boyfriend wants to ride in a biking marathon..one is 50 miles and one is 100. One thing he doesnt know about and wants to find out (as well as me) - is...does anyone know the nutrition needed for such an event...what and how do you prepare nutritionally for such a biking challenge so you don't run into problems..meaning is there some where you can find out what you would need drink/food wise during the biking event? Any info, sites...would be SO WELCOMED! I know your current body size and weight would have to be needed or so I guess.

eat a lot of carbs before the race....get a lot of vitamins and minerals in your body to help support your body's health. Of course, train by riding a bike and increase the amount of miles you ride in one mile incriments.

My sister was a competitive mountain biker ... she swore by Gu (hi-carb gel). Easy to carry & consume 'cause you just rip & squeeze it into your mouth. Oh, and stay away from Banana Powerbars (they're disgusting!!)

The hi-carb gel is a good suggestion. It's easy to carry and to eat. Power Gel, made by Power Bar, is another alternative. They make many flavors and several with added caffeine for that extra lift--chocolate fudge is my favorite. It's pretty easy to find at most vitamin suppliers or large athletic stores. One other suggestion when eating gel, be sure to have water on hand to wash it down. It's pretty thick and when you're working hard can make for a dry throat. Good luck and happy cycling.
