hi, i am new to this whole ordeal. i am trying to lose weight and gain muscle. i am 14 and weight 172 lbs. i am 5"9 and not all fat. i do have a little muscle. my biggest problem area is my stomache. for the past 2 weeks i have done 200 crunches and hopefully soon i will see some results. if anybody could give me some pointers on what do do. i have heard that whey protein is the way to go if a person wants to gains muscle but am kind of cautious when it comes to suplementary items because of my age. would it be alright if i did take whey? i have so many questions.

Just relax. At your age I wouldn't be real quick to take even the whey, but if you do take ANY supplements I would limit it to that and only after your workout. It won't be the thing putting mass on you. The eating and working out will be. Take your time and browse the site, get to know the place and fill yout your profile. Your at a great age to start this journey. Best of luck to you and welcome to site.

thanks, i usually go to the gym about 4 times a week, here is what i do-

i run 2 miles on the treadmill at about 6.5 mph with about a 2.5 grade.

then i use free weight in a bench pressing mode and i do 12 reps of 45 at 4 sets, then i curl 12 reps of 25 at 4 sets, after that i do 200 crunches.

this takes me only about 40 minutes. i need a more challenging work-out. if anybody has a better workout routine please post it here. i will look at the other topics and try to decipher a new one but i would still like peoples imputs on my problems.

my diet isn't too good to what i have read on this site.

monday-friday my breakfests consist of 1 bowl of cherrios with low fat milk and apple juice with my vitamin.

monday-friday since i am at school for lunch i do not get the most nutritious foods but i try to do my best- i usually have a small salad with ranch dressing, and a small carton of orange or apple juice. i know that that is definately not a good lunch and maybe somebody could give me some imput on what would be a good lunch.

monday-friday, since i am at home and my parents make the food that i eat i usually alternate between a couple of things- fish sticks with either corn or green beans and some fruit, pizza(lol, i love my pizza) ham with fruits and veggies. and beef with fruits and veggies.

i have read on this site that fruit is not the best item to eat for a person trying to lose some weight, if i understanded correctly.

i will keep trying to gather infromation but any input and i mean any at all will be greatly appreciated.
