I am just wondering why there are sooo many ab exercises in the mass building program?

============ Quoting from 7707mutt: Cause you need strong abs to lift heavy ============= Yeah, I agree with that but I always figured your ab strength was being developed while you are doing squats, deadlifts etc... I think Wrestler125 has mentioned this also. Maybe I was mistaken. =) Anyway, thanks for your response! =) |

No, you are correct. Deadlifts and squats are excellent abdominal exercises. However, I guess the programs here like to throw in extra ab exercises. Most people would complain if there were not enough, so it's to appease the masses.
I do find abdominal weakness to be a fairly common problem in many people, but not because of lack of volume, but because people don't train abdominals properly. -------------- Iron and chalk. Pain is only temporary, it is in your mind. If you can still walk, then you can still run. |

If done wrongly any exercise can hurt you. I have done deadlifts for 12 years. I regularly do deadlifts up to 425lbs with no belt straps only chalk on my hands and I have no back problems-------------- Less Talk, More Chalk! Why is it that most programs work the abs differently?
Like it'll be 2x10 for each exercise except abs which is 2x15? |

Well, I have started a modified Westside workout. After 2 weeks, I am really liking this program. Completely different from what I have done in the past.
What I like about it the most is, it is centered around 3 great compound exercises: Box Squats/Squats, Deadlifts, Various forms of Benching. I will probably post progress photos in another month or so. |

Damn. And I didn't even have any part in this one...-------------- Iron and chalk. ============ Quoting from bisleri: I have heard that working chest and tricep on the same day leads to size reduction of the arms. Is it true. ============= |

Ha haa, wow, I didn't realize Westside was this popular here. =) But then why wouldn't it be...
HOLY CRAP! After 4 weeks on this program I am making the most amazing strength gains. I fully expect to hit my goal of 300 bench, 450 squat and 500 deads within the next 6 months to a year. I have ME's this week so I will update my max lifts. |

Well look at that. Something that I support and recommend, actually works. Who would have thought?

Thanks guys!
Well, today I did my ME for Deads. I didn't get the 3 reps at the end that I was gunning for but in reality I think I was expecting a bit much. End of worksets looked like this: 245 x 5 x 1 275 x 3 x 1 315 x 1 x 2 ::PB:: (like I said, I was shooting for 3 reps but that was more than I should have tried for. Last week I got 285 x 3 so I am right on schedule I think. I probably could have got 295 x 3 no doubt, maybe even 300, but not 315. Tomorrow I will do ME on squats in the afternoon. Then Sunday or monday, Bench and Back maxes. |
