ive been having a problem with frequent urination over past couple of months and it's getting out of control. has anyone else experienced this. i drink water all day and try to cut off around 7-8 at night but still get up to go to the restroom 4-5/night and not getting good sleep because of this. i have tried to taper and cut back on drinking water (and coffee which i only drink 2 cups/day max) and i just get thirsty - feeling confused at this point. hoping someone has had this problem or some insight. thanks

I know it is going against the grain here, but I have never been a fan of the huge water intakes. For many reasons....one it can wash out if not repelenished electrolyte balance, can cause headaches such, etc. Another, it used to be just drink water when thirsty. I buy into this, I have yet to become dehydrated.
What is probably happening with you is drinking excessive water will cause your body to get into dumping large amounts, so when you cut back, it continues to do so for a few days in anticipation. (this is a trick we use getting ready for competitions to shed water). Anyway, your body is expecting more, and so it becomes "thirsty". Give it some time, it will pass more than likely.

I'm a bit confused on this. I am under the impression that I should be taking in a gallon+ of water per day. I have been doing this over the past month or so, but I have to force myself to consume this much water during an average day. I do drink more on lifting days though. I guess my question is, do I maintain doing this or, as BB1 said: "drink when thirsty"? Thanks.

I'm confused as well, if I drank water only when thirsty I'd have a max of about 2-3 glasses a day, which can't be enough.

ogono: lol, I am a doctor albeit a surgeon so dont care for the "medicine" type issues and ive recent routine lab checks - no diabetes for my small athletic figure here. i am an anxious person and thought about that too but ive always been that way and cant see that being it suddenly
bb1fit: i think ill try your advice, as a doctor i often wonder the science behind drinking gallons of water. at only 4'11 and 92lbs - i doubt i need the 8 full glasses plus. i hadnt thought about my body getting to used to all the water intake and anticipating it. thanks!

I drink very little plain water. Most of the time I have lemon juice mixed with it. Other than that, I drink tea, no sugar.
