alrite well im tryin to tone up a little for the summer, i eat maybe i dont even know maybe 1600-2000 calories a day possibly .. never figured it out .. im not like hardcore cutting .. just eating healthy like turkey, tuna, chicken,
but the problem i have is that my bench is stuck .. and now that i think of it i havent really gone up in weight in any of my excercises lately, is this normal.. and just b/c im not taking in a lot of calories
or is it possible to get stronger while toning up?

#1 you have no profile...we dont know if we're helping a 10 year old girl or a 70 year old man....and the advice given will be quite different
#2 your questions have been asked ad nauseum so search for your question at the bottom with the search function....
for bench check powerlifting forum if ur goal is pure strength...as a beginner u may be able to lose weight and gain strength after intro period that will stop and likely reverse...

sadly u can not gain strength while reducing calories..most people who just begin lifting are able to do that, but you have been lifting for 3 years as you said..calories is what makes you stronger, by reducing your calories you might lose some muscle if you want to tone up..but u can limit the amount of muscle lost through a good diet.

I think you need to be care saying that calories is what makes you stronger. Calories do give us the energy and fuel to workout. But you CAN NOT gain strength just by increasing you calories. By following a consistent strength training program AND eating correctly, that will in the end win you strength and mass.

For the record that's BS....I've "cutted" and hit many a PR. MAtter a fact I just gto a new PR on bench 6 weekls ago....only eating 4 times a day. During the sumer i'm 2800 calories + I'm barly getting 2200..and lifting heavier every week.

Mutt, i forgot to add that in my post. I just assumed he was on a strength training program. And bigandrew, it doesnt all rely on calories. Your program couldve been the difference of you gaing strength or not.

Must say biga...you are a rarity. More often than not, reduce calories for any length of time, lose strength.

Andrew how long are you doing this for? For prolonged period it's damn near impossible to maintain much less gain strength for any non-beginning athlete naturally....
