Hi all im a newbie to weight training and all :S
my question is can i use products like http://www17.netrition.com/lean_body_bars_page.html http://www23.netrition.com/optimum_whey_page.html and still lose body fat. cuz on the whey powder one is says this "Do not use for weight reduction" im sorry if this is a dum question but i dont wann do the wrong thing and mess my routine up...Now ide like to use bars and powders like this so i can get the needed protein to build muscle. But im also trying to lose belly fat and i dont want to mess round with that. Can any 1 tell me if i can use these products and still lose weight and if there are any bad side effect/things i should kno before i use them Thank u very very much for any help u can give me p.s suggestions on good bars/protein powers would be appraciated too :D |

If you are trying to lose bodyfat, protein powders and bars will not hurt your goals if they do not put you above your needed calorie intake. Powders are fine basically post workout, but typically the bars are a bit more calorie dense due to fillers, binders, etc. just to hold them together. the bars usually taste like crap too, and are way more costly per gram of protein provided than even a good quality/tasting powder.

O and i was thinking of like taking a protein bar before my work out then a couple hours later taking a protein power/drink. Is this a good idea? And i was going to only use them on the days i work out. I can do taht right..or do i have to make it an everyday thing. I am currently working out 3-4 days a week P.S sorry i took so long to msg back i been bery bery busy Thx |

What bb1 means is, he wouldn't bet the farm on the nutritional value of protein bars being what they say they are. As far your other question, if you like you can have the protein bar before you workout if that's all that's available, a meal with a slow burning carb and good protein sourcve would be better. After your workout, have the protein powder with some milk, yep, that's right, after bb1's post on this, I am making it gospel for now on. Great timing by the way Ron, I was almost out of dex and malto!:big_smile:
Other than that, have a decent meal 1-2 hours after you workout with a complex carb and another good protein source, maybe some chicken or tuna and a sweet potato. Also try and keep the use of protein bars to a minimum, I feel the same as bb1 n this, whole food is a more definite source of protein and nutrients. If you need to use the protein powder as a meal replacement to meet your daily amount, mix it with some oats or something to help slow the digestion. One more thing, I read in your profile that your only 18, if you eat right, workout hard and rest, you'll see nice gains. You need to improve your current workout though, try working out 3-4 times a week and concentrate on squats, deadlifts, bench press, military press, dips nd pull ups. You can dump the sit ups if you want, without using some type of resistance all your doing is burning calories. Keep your one day of cardio seperate from your workout days. Ide have them on top of a meal of coarse. I really dont ahve much choice thoo on the other days when i work im preaty beat and by da time im done work the gyms so full lol O and 1 more thing are there any protein powders or bars u can suggest??? I dont wann buy a bad 1 or anything....O and im in canada so i dont kno if we have simalar products. Question 1-Would that be the first time you saw misinformed advertising?
Question 2-As far as having them on top of a meal or in place of them, as long as they fit into your daily totals your fine. Question 3-Visit the specific diet and nutrition forum and read the "grocery list for healthy eating" thread there. Question 4-Not sure where this question was going but will say to try and keep the days you workout and do cardio seperated. As far as the final thing you asked about, like I said, I don't bveleive in the protein bars much so I don't know which one to reccomend. Any 100% whey protein should suffice. -------------- Days go by and life drags on..... |
