I am 23 yrs old and currenly weigh 138lbs,and I am 5'5. A year ago I joined a gym and started working out. About a month after I joined I hired a personal trainer. Since then I have lost 40bs. I just also became a certified personal trainer about a month ago. I have been stuck on a plateau for about 4 months now. On Monday-Friday I have a really good diet consuming about 15-20 grams of fat, around 1300-1500 calories, about 150 grams of protein and about 130 grams of carbs a day. On Saturday is my off day and I eat anything I want. On Sunday I still watch what I eat just not as strick. My workout schedule is 4 days a week a good hour of total body workout then with 30 minutes of cardio and 3 days week with an hour and half of just cardio and abs. I still continue to train with my personal trainer 1 day a week and I also see a wellness doctor who is also a bodybuilder once a month. My doctor says that my body is in starvation mode and and am not taking in enough fat and calories, he suggest 30-40 grams of fat a day and 2500-3000 calories. My trainer suggest under 20 grams of fat a day. So I am not sure which advice I should take. I feel like if I do take in 30-40 grams of fat a day in that I will be gaining weight. My body fat is 23% and I burn 1500 calories a day, that is not moving just lying there. I want to loose 10 more pounds but it seems like nothing is working. Any advice would be great!!

The quick answer is a question - How does your doctors physique compare to your trainers? I'd just about bet that it isn't your trainers. :) Browse the site a little more and you'll find that most agree that the low fat diets aren't going to work for most people in the long run.The rest of the quick answer is that when you're doing something for that long, it's pretty obvious it isn't the best thing for results. You do need more calories and definitely more good fats in your diet.

Sorry forgot to include diet.
Breakfast- 3 egg whites and 1 whole egg with .5 cup of oatmeal and .5 cup of skim milk.
Snack- whey protein shake with water
Lunch- 1 piece of griled chicken .5 cup of steamed veggies and 1 medium sweet potato.
Snack- whey protein shake
Dinner- 1 Piece of grilled chicken with 2 cups of green beans.

I also am taking CLA and starch blockers and a prescribed diet pill are there any others suggestions?

I hate to answer two of your questions with more questions but... :) Why are you taking a starch blocker when from what I see, you're getting virtually no starch? I have to make a couple of assumptions as there's nothing in your profile. The first being that you're female. I assume that as you are fairly small but mostly because you do a ton of cardio. :)I'm sitting here in Waikiki getting ready to go out so I'm going to save myself some time and post some super good reading already posted in the thumb tacks. What you've been doing is what conventional personal trainers have been putting out for years and it doesn't work any better this year than it did 10 years ago. Read the links and feel free to ask anything you want. There' a ton of expertise on this site and more up to date in the best approach.

Yep, hard to give solid diet advice without kowing more. For me I would replace the 1st snack with some walnuts(handful), and the 2nd snack I would mix the whey with some oats or frozen strawberries. Fill out your profile so we can give you more precise advice. Also feel free to take advantage of the search feature at the bottom of the page, very handy.

Ohana Mike, ohana. I hope all is well!
