I figured why the hell not...

Anyways... Full cleans, @ 160, drop into the hole, deep. Deeper than I'm used to (I've recently had a lot of hip rehab done), beautiful catch, except that the bar is traveling backwards and lose it with my left hand...
I lose my balance while in the hole, end up falling back underneath the bar, the entire time my left hand is still stuck on the bar incorrectly. My elbow flares out to the side as I land on my back.
Wish I had video.
Anyways, this morning my whole palm is black, I can barely move my thumb, and theres pain all throughout my hand and wrist. 0 degrees flexion range of motion in wrist.
At best its an internal hematoma (a bad bruise), and at worst its a torn tendon.

Sweet.

Let's hope it's only a bad bruise.

Well week 3, and still no pressing or snatching.

Just got back to RIT, and apparantely my training partner, Jared, had the same injury 9 weeks ago and he still cant press.

This officially sucks.

Nah. I will if I have time. The only time the healh center is open is when I'm working (right across at the gym). I figure it may even be good for me. It only hurts at pressure, so I doubt its serious or that there is anything I can do to fix it.

Does gout count as a powerlifting injury? I ask as it only seems to come on after a ME leg day.

Finally went to a foot doctor about it today. Need to have surgery for it that will keep me out of lower body training for 6 weeks YIKES

Don't get too anxious now, Mutt, it's just six weeks, and I'm sure you'd much rather have a healthy foot the rest of your life than powerlift for a few weeks and permanently damage it. It's a good opportunity for your upper body- more rest time, etc.

Or, you can find a way to adapt and continue to train legs. Maybe ME squat is out of the question, but I've done it wearing a boot, so...

Ankle cuffs are your friends.
Hyperextensions and leg curls... Lots of them...
And its a great chance to use all those silly machines you never would...

Surgery for Gout? My Dad used to get it all the time, he now takes some prescription meds to help keep the uric acid from building up in the joints. I'm not so sure you have gout if surgery is going to FIX it. Gout comes and goes, its a type of arthritis. Uric acid builds up and gets deposited in the joints. We are talking about the same thing right?

I did good mornings on a 45 degree hyperextension with no problem while I was hurt.

i really messed up my back with bad form on romanian deadlifts the other day. wasnt able to walk for about 3 days so i had to take off work and it still hurts some. happened 4 days ago but i should be healed come monday (happened tuesday). anyway, while it really does suck and it is stupid.. im almost glad it happened (since it was not a disc or anythin) because i have yet to have a painful injury (other than like minor aches and pains) so it really helps me focus more on form. i know what i will be preventing if i really pay attention to myself now.

Thanks for clarifying. Its not actually Gout as the injury but an actual tear, tear, split, crack, etc. creating an opportunity for the gout to flare up. If I recall it was a cracked bone in my Father's foot that first allowed him to be diagnosed with Gout.

Good luck with the Surgery....

Yes and no it is gout I would have gotten it anyway as my uric acid is high (one thing causing in gout is uric acid) it just had a nice home to move into, which makes sense now as my doc was totaly at a loss as to explain why I had it as just uric acid is usually not enough. I am planning to get it done in later fall.
