My little girl asks me what type of workout "we" are doing today..she will go and look at my workout schedule on the fridge and come and tell me its "abs" day.

SHe pretty much does every exercise with me,but I only let her do one set,she even uses the 3lb hand weights...Iam so glad thats she taking up exercise in this manner...I encourage her and hopefully it will be something that sticks with her for life.

She is also the HUGE veggie eater..raw raw raw...Now if I can only motivate my 14 year old daughter!

I love working out with the kids!We do "family fitness" every summer. The kids really enjoy it.We just started again this week, track this week, biking next week.I hope this will give them the desires to take care of their bodies their whole lives.

But mine are 9 and 10....I don't know about dragging a teen out there!!Good Luck!:)

Atiger-thats just too cute....

KC-Dragging a teen is the right way of putting it! Iam trying hard to get her to eat right...shes the junk food eater...but I guess what I need to do is make sure we have all the right foods in the house and basically let her decide..

She will figure out what works and what doesnt..I ALWAYS have a full fruit bowl and lots of times she does reach for it...but its a struggle

Mystic....I'm a mean Mom.We rarely have junk food in the house.Only because I know I'll be the one eating it all!!!When I do buy it( they are kids they need some junk I think) it has to be something I know I don't like. And ice cream..strawberry or vanilla, that's all that can be in my house!!But I think kids all have their own little personality, you'd think my son was raised by wolves and my daughter by the queen! You wouldn't guess meeting them that they were raised by the same parents their entire lives!!I'm sure she will follow your example. You've inspired me on this site(still doing my ab workout daily!)I'm positive it will rub off on her!!I think if you try and take junk food out of the house all together she will rebel...and that's ALL she'll want to eat!I think you hit it on the nose when you said you'd have the right foods available and let her decide.

Mutt-if it were as simple as that, then the world wouldnt be full of obese children

Ok I dont buy junk food..at the age of 14 kids have a way of getting it..her dad often brings it into the house because he eats it..cause hes a grown adult,no way am Iam gonna tell him what he can and cannot eat...I provide healthy alternatives all the time...

When her weight starts to really become an issue, thats when she will have to make the decision on what to put in her mouth

Mystic, It's great that you've sparked an interest in exercise for your 7 year old. I hear ya on the 14y/o...I have the same problem. Lucky for her, she's always been slim, but I keep warning her that it'll catch up to her sooner or later. All any parent can do is teach good eating habits and offer healthy food choices. I'm sure that when they get older the information we've given them will come to good use. I know my eating habits were terrible as a kid and my Mom always taught good eating habits (she would never buy "sugar shock" cereal...a term I use with my kids today!) My kids just roll there eyes as I read out the ingredients on the food labels, but at least they now know how to read a label and what consitutes good and bad nutrition!

My son mimimics me after I read a food label. Little does he know that he is learning at the same time. If they make fun of you, it means they are attentative!

Keepthe exercise going with the kids, it will only benefit later.

that is great to hear! It is cool to implement and model a healthy environment for our children.
