I am in the army and have a soldier who just found out she is pregnant. She wants to continue to exercise but not risk the pregnancy. She is healthy and somewhat fit, would like to get her a exercise program that will help keep her healthy without harm. She does want to include weights(more for toning purposes) and cardio. don't have much experience in this area. thanks dean.

Best thing is to get her to see a OBGYN they can set a exercise routine. There are way too many variables for a site like this to advise a pregnant woman to exercise.

I exercised through out both my pregnancies, pre pregnancy workouts will determine what her workout during pregnancy will be.If she has always been active it won't hurt her to stay active, but it has to be low impact and she has to really watch her heart rate and fluid in take regardless.Mutt is right...having her discuss it with her OBGYN is the best answer.

I agree with KC_72. I study developmental psychology, which is human development. From my learnings, it is said that if you exercised moderatly before you were pregnant, it is ok to exercise moderatly when you do become pregnant. It is advised not to work out vigerously, even if you did before you were pregnant. Vigerous workouts can lead to serious problems such as low birth weight. Like everyone else has said, the best thing to do is get professional advise from the OBGYN.
