Hello,
I have been told by my doctor not to do any upper-body lifting for 6-8 weeks due to my rotator cuff injury. I have been told by Menace that fish oil helps with muscle retention during this time, but I am also considering burning some fat since I can't lift.
I want to maintain as much muscle as I can during this time off, but am contemplating shedding some unwanted body fat. Is this a good time to throw in some extra cardio to lose fat, or bad because I will be losing muscle mass at a faster rate due to not lifting? I have been searching everywhere for an answer, but can't find one.
Please give me your feedback.

if u will start trying to lose bf/weight then u'll also likely lose more muscle...
did the doc suggest any rehab work? like working on the rotator cuff muscles?
did the doc give any other supp recommendations?

Hey Mence,
The doc gave me a couple of exercises to do to strengthen my rot cuff using stretch bands (I don't know the names but one of them include resting your elbow to your side, having your fist in front of you and pulling the band to the side of you).
I am due to see a therapist next week to make sure I am rehabing correctly. He also gave me some anti-inflammatory medicines (only 14 days worth).
Do you think it would be okay to lift really light (to the point where I don't feel the rot cuff hurting) or should I jsut stay away from lifting completely until completely healed??

^ good exercises
do them with light bands/cables/weights for reps of 15-20....and slowly try to increase the weight...
I would not do any pressing exercises or any that cause any hurting in your rotator cuffs...
take Fish Oil and glucosomine chondroitin to help with recovery...

Take it slow and listen to your Doc and your Therapist. Once you are back in the gym the exercise he gave you can and should be performed regularly in your routine and can be done various ways either with a cable pully at stomach height or with a dumbell while laying on one side.

I think I will just lay low and try to rehab until I am as close to 100% as I can be.
Do you think playing sports such as basketball would be hazerdous to my rotator cuff? I don't really feel shoulder pain when I play, but I want to be really sure...
Thanks... also, any other tips on retaining muscle besides limiting cardio and fish oil? Do I need to keep up the protein still?
