hi, im 18 and have put on about 15 pounds to reach 72kg through eating much more and doing alot of resistance training. would this be a good time for me to start 'cutting'? im not exactly too sure what this involves and im guessing its purpose is to get rid of any accumulated fat?

You got it right. There is no right time but the time to do it is up to you. If you do a search at the bottom for cutting, you'll get a ton of info.

I agree with Mike, you should research cutting more and then decide if it is something you really want to do or not.

Make sure you are happy with your muscle size before you take to cutting. You will not gain any more while doing this for sure, as diet will not allow it. Be aware, most folks think they have more muscle than they do, and are quite shocked when they cut thinking they are going to look like a pro bodybuilder, instead look like JJ. :)
