after reading some posts I am wondering if the fact that I breast fed continuosly for 7 years, including through two pregnancies has changed my metabolism to "laying down the fat mode"?is this possible??I am extremely active and have a reasonably healthy diet and never have time to sit down so why do I find it so hard to loose. How can I kick start my metabolism again??so it burns the fat??My diet hasn't changed over the years other than I drink tea & coffee and less water now and I eat faster than I used to .:surprised:

Are you still breast feeding at this point? It has always been my understanding that breastfeeding raises your metabolism. But to jumpstart...there is a fabulous thread about this in the diet and nutrition forum titled "diet thread" by BB1fit.Check it out it's really great information.Good luck and welcome!

no I stopped breast feeding 3 years ago but I had breast fed continously for 7 years, right through the second two pregnancies ,I actually didn't have a period for 7yrs due to breastfeeding ,my metabolism was really always very fast before having any kids and right up until I had the yoiungest one then It just seemed to slow right down.

After my first son was born I went to a nutritionist to help me take off the extra pounds and she added an extra 500 calories to my diet to compensate for the calories burned to produce the milk. So, when you breast feed you are burning more and works to help you lose. However, I think this effect is only significant in the first six months say when your milk is the babies only or main food source. I breast fed each of my 4 children for 1 year each (did not continue through the pregnancy however), but close the end of each year they were only nursing sporadically and of course I wasn't producing nearly as much. I, too, had the benefit of no periods for 7 years! I really didn't notice any permanent effect on my metabolism either way.

I have been breastfeeding for the past 5 years continuosly, through two pregnacies also, and I have found it very difficult to lose weight, and I have completly 'cleaned up' my diet to a point where I'm hardly eating any 'bad' food. My sister also found that it wasn't until she stopped breastfeeding that she lost her weight, and a lot of it.
