Ok first off welcome. Secondly, if you go to a gym and are walking 2 miles a day, why are you doing more cardio at the gym? YOu need to do 3 things in order to get into shape. One is get a good meal plan (note I did not say diet). second is to start weight training. That is almost as important as diet. Thridly and this is one that is so often abused, is cardio. What you are doing is way to much cardio. Either walk like you are or do the cardio at the gym not both. Hope this helps a bit!

Okay, I just had to answer because you sound a lot like me. I am also a 30 year old curvy Mom with no free time. First of all, I'd listen to the moderators over me, but here is what helped me...I'm now smaller than I was in high school. Mutt is right about the cardio. It is true that cardio will burn excess calories, but you'll get the best bang for your buck weight lifting. The problem with cardio is that you have to do it a long time to burn any great amount of calories for weight loss. I found it a better use of my time to watch my diet. Muscle is one third as dense as fat. So, you can see how you would want to build more muscle and get rid of fat. This is why muscular people can have a high weight but look small. The last time I weighed as high as I do now I was a size 10, but now I'm a size 6. Also, muscle increases your metabolism because it needs more calories to sustain it, which will let you eat more...yay!
Three times a week should be sufficient to weight lift, but I would do all the body parts each time. You might want to check into Joyce Vedral. She has a whole line of books and videos with routines. She's an extremely easy read and also personally answers any email you send her. I got started with Definition, which was very time efficient because it was right after I had my baby when I had less time than I do now. Of course a crucial piece is diet. I found that if I eat mostly produce I will stay around my set weight. I eat a lot of fruit, salad, fish, and protein powder. A lot of people would disagree that I don't eat much complex carbs, but this is what works for me. I just find it easier to eat very little of the processed foods, rice, and pasta. On this site or fitday.com, start logging your calories to figure out what works for you to lose weight. I think Joyce has some good diet recommendations in her books, but I have to stay on the lower side of her food group suggestions. Good luck!
