Okay...I'm a novice here to nutrition details so bare with me! After a morning workout consisting of 45-60 minutes of cardio and 20 minutes weight training...and not having anything to eat before the workout...doesn't it make sense to eat a post-workout meal that is low calorie, and low carb? Because wouldn't it make sense that the body would turn to more of your fat storage to keep the body running after the workout? I just read in a previous post that the post workout meal should be 2:1 ratio of carbs to protein. Please correct me and tell me how the body breaks down and why a low cal, low carb post workout meal is not good....? thanks

You need nutrition for your body to recover after the work out. Also the body needs energy to burn fat.

Don't worry you'll not stop burning fat by eating a good post work out meal.

I agree with Philia2! Eat a healty meal after your workout... You should wait 30-45 minutes after your training to eat something... that should boost your metabolism!
You need to respect the 2:1 ratio of carbs to protein..and in this way, you should have energy to burn fat!

The whole point of your post workout shake is to replenish muscle glycogen and protein.

I take vitamin C and glutamine straight after my work out. Then I wait for at least 30 mins before I eat. I simply cannot eat before since I need to calm down before eating.....

Nope, glutamine is a very important amino acid.
Do a search, and you'll find some good info.

Philia, I'm glad you brought this up. I finally was able to add glutamine to my regimen (I'm not a rich man) but I'm confused as to WHEN to take it. Instructions say "one capsule 3 times daily one hour before meals or on an empty stomach." I eat six times a day, so I assume I squeeze them in between - not too soon after my last meal but not just before the next. Is this really neccessary or is that just for fear of upset stomach or something like that?

Also, does the time for swallowing these little suckers have to coincide with working out in some way, ya know, like creatine?

Cool. Each softgel capsule is 600 mg - GNC brand L-glutamine. Feel free to tell me if y'all think this brand is inferior to another.

gnc has always had a pretty good rep, so i woulnt worry too much about that.

in regards to when: there is some documentation that states that glutamine should be taken on an empty stomach because it will conflict with some other aminos if taken with food. at the same time, i have seen research that says that it is better to take with food for two reasons: it will not be destroyed by the over abundance of stomach acid of an empty stomach (the food helps as a buffer); and that taking it with other food will actually increase its effectiveness by allowing it to bond with other aminos to complete them.

i used to take at a minimum 5g (powder form) with my pre workout meal and another 5g with my post workout. sometimes i added 5 g in the morning and 5 g before bed.

hope that helps...........

Thanx Rev8ball. That helps a lot. Someday I'll be answering questions here instead of always asking them. :0)
