Ok first off I'm 21 never lifted weights in my life (well the bench one) ever. Im 5'11 135 pounds so Im pretty skinny and I feel you know kind of odd to ask for help here but I dunno where else to ask. I read alot of the topics here and see alot of good help from everyone and am hoping maybe I can get some help here. My first question is about weights the bench how much is a good set I should start off with? And how many reps?? Do I do? Sorry im extremely new at this and may not be using the right terms. Im just really embrassed all my life to go to the gym but I want to change my life now and work out to gain weight and feel good. So any help or tips would be appreciated.

Go to the gym and get a free session with a trainer - they can help you figure out what weight to start with.

Otherwise, start with a weight you can do in good form for 12 repetitions. Try 3 sets. Next time try to do one extra rep.

Get set up with a free program here, at the top of the screen under exercise program - it will ask your goals and generate a workout you can print and take to the gym. Ask a trainer at the gym if you are unsure how to use equipment - showing you how to safely workout is part of their job.

Fill out your profile and more people will take the time to answer your posts.

Thank you very much asimmer ! I didn't even know about the fitness plan you have here and I'll take full advantage of it. Right now im still embarrassed and well shy to go to a gym but I will get help about using the weights from a trainer from the local high school. But for now Im on the home training program you have in the fitness plan. Its stuff I can do without equipment for now and hopefully help build my confidence to step up after I finish it to move to the next thing. I do also have a follow up question do you thihnk its wise for me to invest in like a bow-flex or those machines you see on tv ads? Well again thanks for your comments and help. Now im going to look for a good diet that will gain weight on this forum to go with my workout plan from here. Thank you again!

Looks like your profile didn't make it...it says null...you may want to try again...this seems to be happening alot lately...anybody have any ideas why???And jericho I wanted to tell you that I get embarassed and don't want to go to the gym either....but I figured out the people there aren't as scarey as they look and are very positive and helpful...if you have someone that can help you to make sure your form is good, that's important.Good luck to you and welcome to FT!!:)
