I NEED HELP!!!
My daughter was nominated for homecoming princess and asked to it by one of her friends. I am so outdated, I can't even remember what happens at those events as my two oldest kids wanted nothing to do with those events. Do they wear fomal wear to these? Does the guy still buy a corsiage (spelling???) and the girl a boutineere (again...spelling???) or is that done at prom only? We are taking my daughter dress shopping this afternoon and i don't want to overdress her or underdress her. We might just look at dresses today and buy later this week. I will also be chaperoning the event..hehe Any help would be appreciated. :) -------------- Bettia.... Bill to the rescue ....
i guess from what ive read, it depends on the schools on how formal the dress is, but here's a link that may help.... http://www.ehow.com/how_18294_select-homecoming-dress.html -------------- Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail. Okay, okay i found out that it wasn't as formal as prom but semi-formal so no boutineere and that is needed. We got her a cute cocktail dress, she kinda looks like a retro fifies dress red/black and very cute. So her style. She is excited as this is her first big dance.
Needless to say I am not as excited, when she tried on the whole outfit i came to realization that my daughter is no longer a little girl but a well formed teenager, she looked beautiful to say the least. her day grunted all the way home! LOL! Wish me luck and control so I don't slap some boy upside the head for looking at her too long or the you know, sizing up of her! LOL! i told my mom i would leave the shot gun at home, wish i wouldn't have pinky sweared that one! -------------- Bettia.... I know what you mean...well not mine...she's still a baby at ten...for now...but I have friends who's girls are in their teens....I saw them all in bikinis over the summer at BBQ's...I was shocked!!!I don't remember me or any of my friends having the figures these girls do at 13 and 14...they may have something with the hormones in the milk theory!Glad to hear you will be leaving the shot gun at home...they say daddy's are the worst when it comes to little girls...but us mama bears are meaner I think!!!

I have 13 and 16 year old daughters...scary stuff!! My jaw drops everytime all there friends come over to use our pool/hot tub. One of them is 6'2" and drop dead gorgeous while the rest are all beauties as well. My hubby just hides and quivers..... I agree with you KC, no one I knew looked like that at 13-16!! My eldest has had a boyfriend for over a year now...how the hell did that happen.....i swear it wasn't that long ago that I was taking them to their first day of school......

I top you fly my girls are 18, 15 and 13!!!! It kills me I tell you! I have so many grey hairs in the last year and a half i's killing me!
Just the other day I had to tell some thug to not check my daughter out like that! It was insane! Now I do remember girls looking that way when i was that age, not many but there were a few who stood out. I say chastity belts should be put back in place, better yet, full body armor! Sounds like you girls need a big burly uncle bill to come over the night of their dates and scare the living hell outta the boys, ya know, explain that there wouldnt be a rock in the world that they could hide under if anything would happen to the girls, and that id have to tie em up and sing abba songs to them over and over, way out of tune.
My best friends lil girl is only 10 and is an absolute doll already, hes got 12-13 yr old boys sniffing around the house trying to come over and bounce on the trampelene and swim in the pool, till they got a peek of me crushing beer cans on my forhead, they keep their distance for now  -------------- Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail. before the game, there is a parade, where all the nominees get to ride in cars and wave to thier friends and classes...and tie up traffic.ALong with the class floats , maybe some clubs etc.
Now at my homecomming...the girls nominated wore semi formal to formal dresses....and where escorted on the field by a football player of thier choice, or male cheerleader....where applicable(LOL) Anyways...there was no dance...most of the homecoming girls changed clothes or stayed in thier gowns and just went somwhere afterward: eat, bowling, party etc. of coarse pictures are taken etc etc. usually when the girl is escorted on the field she is given some flowers from a shop around the school for pics etc. not sure though thats how it went at my school. -------------- Get your bicep curling, cut off shirt, matching workout outfit wearing, flexing in mirror "toned" wanna-be ass , out of my squat rack! I don't know...maybe they did have those kinds of figures...I just didn't recognize it at the time.My little girl has no figure to speak of yet...so I don't worry about her getting oggled by older boys....but she came home last week talking about a boy she liked and what should she do if he asked her to be his "girlfriend"...I thought it was kinda funny and told her we'd talk to dad...dad said no way...I thought it was kinda silly, she's ten..she doesn't know what a boyfriend is...but at any rate she was terribly upset...all the other girls had boyfriends...this week she comes home and says the boy she liked is a dork...and she only likes him now....now she doesn't "love" him any more....I'll just enjoy this while it's still cute...before it gets scarey!!!!

BA...you can probably explain this better...but I'll give it a shot...I believe it's the first home game of the football season...for us it was always tied in with spirit week...we had floats from all of the classes(freshman.sophmores, and so on)and each class elected a homecoming princess and a King and Queen were elected(usually seniors) and like BA said they were escorted by a football player of their choice...and paraded around the football feild during half time..and there's a big dance after(at my school)I may not be exactly right...but it's something like that...I just remember it was a huge deal...high school football here in Texas is HUGE so all of this makes the news...it's fun!

We call it "season opener" and get some big football players from the CFL to show up. That all. Thanks for explaining because I actually thought the kids went away somewhere and came back!-------------- Thinking of a new signature line. Ivan Montreal Canada (City of Festivals) |

we couldn't have dances..."we is too ghetto of a school"
Usually homecoming wasn't the 1st football game...but rather....all the alumi to "come" back "home".....thats why you always wanna win homecomming. -------------- Get your bicep curling, cut off shirt, matching workout outfit wearing, flexing in mirror "toned" wanna-be ass , out of my squat rack!
