how long does it take to get into the habit of eating foods in moderation? I am trying my best to learn again but just wondering how long a habit, on norm, usually takes to instill?

that is a very good question. I think it is individualistic, some people can do it quickly, some take longer. I think the key is to do it at your pace. If you try to quickly sometimes to drop all bad things, you start to feel very deprived and it usually doesn't last, and you end up binging. If you are not on a time schedule where you have to do this by a certain date, I usually tell my clients go a little at a time, drop this, get used to it, then move on to the next thing you want to drop. I have seen too many people go totally gung ho for 3-4 weeks, and then just find it overwhelming, and totally quit. It is better in moderation as you state. You can do it! Best of luck to you. hope this makes some sense. Kind of hard sometimes to put reasoning into a couple paragraphs.

Just never be too strict on your diet. If you don't allow you to eat much and what you really like, well then you'll just cheat too fast.
It's suppose to be a lifestyle change and not a suffer!! (o;

I agree with the above posts. I think it all comes down to discipline. You should set specific goals for yourself and devise a plan to get you there. If you want it bad enough, you will attain your goals much sooner. I have some strange cravings at times, but I deal with them. I read somewhere that it will take 14-21 days of following a particular diet for it to become a habit (that's a very general statement, though). That will vary for individual to individual, as stated above.
