Fish Oil at Night is Killing Me!

If I olny take 4 grams in the morning I'm fine but when I take the other 4 at night I get burped-up when I go to bed and it keeps me up at night, really pisses me off!

Doses are taken 1st and last meal, should I take them all in 1st meal or try 1st meal and 3rd or 4th, I eat 5 meals?

I do take Enteric Coated Caps!

I too, have dealt with the fish burps. Nasty buggers aren't they? The way I got past them when taking the pills at night, was to eat about 5 bites of dinner, take the pills, and then finish the rest of my meal. I also took them with milk, not water, and it took care of the burpies. I hope you find something that works for ya, cause yeah...not the most pleasant thing in the world. :laugh:

Yeah, take the fish oil with a meal. Not sure why you would have that problem with enteric coated caps.

While purchasing my fish oil on the weekend I had an opportunity to speak with the Webber Naturals sales rep.

She has two suggestions for dealing this fish burps. 1) take the capsules at meal time. I take them before and it has worked very well. 2) freeze the capsules. This is the how she takes her fish oil. The rational being the capsules pass further into the G/I tract, to be absorbed by the intestines.

I`ve noticed that I get the burps when:

1. when I have to at the same time that`s why I break the dosage thru the day

2.or after heavy meal I~ll wait half hour after I~ll have
one

Maybe use a different form of good fats at night such as Flax seed or Hemp harts

Instead of meals 1 and 5 I switched it to meals 1 and 4 and this seems to be good!

I take 4 caps with meal 1 and 4 cap with meal 4.

With flax seed I take 2 TBSP with meal 2 and 2 with meal 5.

Olive Oil either in meals 3,4 or 5 sometime in 2 of them, I try to shot for 1 tsp a day and it's usually mixed into a Tuna meal!

Peanut Butter in meal 3.

I do not use Peanut Butter or Olive Oil every single day like I do Fish and Flax but I do try for PB or Olive Olive at least once a day!

My macro are looking like 40 40 20 or 45 40 25 (C/P/F) 2250 TO 2500 Calories per day, going a few day under then refeed until I get to a lower fat % I'm currently 184 pounds and 14.5% or 15% fat ass LOL, shooting to see what 12 will look like but will not wana go under 10. BB1fit pretty much set me straight on too low of Body fat% and the 6 pack and both are not a goal and pretty much not going to happen!

EFA= essential fatty acid, the body can't produce it so it has to come from diet. Here is one of many articles on the benefits of fish oil...

I can't get to the link you gave for the fish oil MVP.I'm thinking of taking up the fish oil routine.For the challenge we are doing I can't get my fats where they should be,and figured this would help.How do you figure what your intake for a day should be...I assume just read the label???I'm not sure.

It still won't take to the link...thats alot of fish oil!!!!I'm gonna have to go look at a bottle...I'm missing on average 25 g of fat and 150 cal from my diet everyday...I'm trying to make that up..thinking fish oil would be a good option.

25 g's I would go flax seedc and fish oil.

I get 8 grams fat and 80 calories per day on fish oil and on average I get 10 grams fat and 100 grams a day on flax seed thats 180 calories of good fats!

Get it ground like coffee!

Never cook with it, put it in foods after cooking, I put it in my cereal and tuna or salmon salads. Sometimes I just spoon it it water and it taste good.

With Fish oil get Enteric Coated or you'll be a fish burppy girl!

My daily intake of good fats not already in my meats are Fish Oil, Flax Seed (Cold Milled Ground), Olive Oil and Peanut Butter!

OK...I'll check it all out...and I for sure don't want fish burps....YUCK!!!!...one more question...where would I buy flax seed...I've seen fish oil allover..but not the flax seed.

I routinely take fish oil everyday in capsule form. I typically take 5 capsules which is 5 grams. I also take primrose oil (Vit E)+ a B50 complex (both are supposed to be good for women-PMS etc) Obviously I take a good multivitamin as well. I did buy some Udon Oil at Amy's recommendation to get in some extra EFA's.

BTW, I started taking the fish oil to help with my joint problems, but like the fact that I'm getting extra EFA's with it. There's lots of discussion on FT about fish oil versus Flax, and I thought the general concesus was that if you were going to take one over the other, fish oil was the way to go....

I just buy my fish oil from costco in larg bottles.

I get my flax from Walmart!

I take both Fish and Flax becuase they both serve great purposes, Fish for the EFA's and the flax for me more so for the fiber! They both have some of the same stuff but each has something to offer that the other don't.

If i had to choose between the two I would take Fish hands down but I don't have to make a choice and can use both LOL!

Not to give GNC the credit over my own efforts with diet and gym, but I dropped my bad cholesterol within acceptable ranges and raised my good cholesterol by 20 pts. Dr said he's never seen such an improvement in such a short time without being on medication. Just some of the benefits that I attribute since I added these to my diet.
