According to ft I am allowed 3,080 calories a day to lose weight. I am 5'7 and weigh 166 lbs. This seems like a high amount of calories for a weight loss goal. Any info would be appreciated.

That is too high. I would place you around 1,800 - 1,900 but that would depend on what your current intake is, too.

When you start the challenge (Let's get this fat loss started thread) try starting with 1,800.

What you need to do is find out what amount of calories you are intaking that with your current energy expenditure factored in, you are staying the same with a non retarted type diet(neither gaining or losing). The non retarded type diet is one where you are actually taking a decent amount of nutrients, not one where you are so low on calories that your fat loss mechanism has totally shut down.

At the point mentioned above(non retarded diet), simply start reducing your caloric intake by 10-15% per day. Keep at this making changes after weekly intervals when the losses slow to a crawl or stop.

Formulas are a bad way to figure for the most part, everyone is different, there are so many 'human' factors involved in dieting.
