Branched Chain Amino Acids. They are the molecular compounds that make up protein. Some individual amino's have been shown to increase muscularity and recovery, for example Glutamine. You get most of your amino's from the foods you eat. Supplements of that type are good if you intend to build muscle.

There are 8 essential amino acids. Branch chain aminos are aminos your body cannot produce, therefore supplementation is required to get them. When your body needs amino acids for any reason, it goes directly to muscle tissue for them. If it robs BCAA's, the amino chain is broken, and the rest is useless. So the more your body robs BCAA's, the more muscle tissue is broken down. Aminos are the optimal protein source for building muscle tissue. A diet rich in peptide-bonded amino acids is far superior to whole proteins alone in terms of nitrogen retention, building lean tissue, and muscular weight gain. They can have dramatic increases in recovery while minimizing muscle soreness. And maybe most beneficial of all, helps greatly in retaining lean muscle tissue during strict dieting conditions. YOu may think about this, even plants need special nutrients to grow beyond the size nature intended. A high nitrogen environment is a must. Hope I didn't get too long winded here, just trying to help.

It sometimes gets hard to explain some of these things in the short space available on these boards. If still uncertain, you may consider doing an internet search for amino acids. There is a wealth of information out there, and you will find out everything you wanted to know and then some! Good luck...
