I have always had a problem with snacking on crackers and chips healthy and unhealthy ones. Im really bad with portion control when it comes to carbs. Does anyone else have or had this problem? Aside from that my diet is clean. Would it be the easiest to quit eating that stuff all together cold turkey? Do the cravings for them go away over time? Thanks!

Well if you're as bad off as me with the crackers I'd say cold turkey....I tried portion control...just taking out the recommended number on the box and eating them...never worked,I always went and got more.I had a passion for wheatables...could eat the whole box...with NO problem. So I just quit buying them...It only took a couple of weeks before the desire for them went away...so I say cold turkey...good luck!!

Thanks I figured cold turkey because i've tried doing the portion control numerous times it never works. I wish i didnt have to have that stuff in my house but the other people that live with me eat all that stuff and i can't force them to give it up. I figure if i ignore the crackers and chips for a couple weeks the desire for them will go away it's going to be hard i've loved that stuff since i was a little kid! Thanks for responding!

Or you could do them a favor and take over the shopping and buy fruits and veges instead for snacks.

mya - if you get the junk out of your diet you won't want it anymore. Once your taste has improved and you eat a lot of fresh veggies, ect, greasy stuff will make you kind of sick.

Just be strong, it is like quitting smoking - you have to think of yourself as a non-junkfood eater.

It maybe harder than quitting smoking, just because you can hang around non-smokers, but there is no such thing as non-eaters, so there is almost always temptation. Not to mention the media onslaught of junkfood ads you see on tv and billboards...

I find that when I am dieting it helps to adopt an attitude of superiority - think of yourself as someone who eats an ideal diet, you wouldn't deign to stoop low enough to eat junkfood. it would be like eating out of the trash.

That doesn't mean you have to act any different towards your friends when they are eating junk, just smile and say "sorry, i am in training" or "I don't eat junk, it really makes me feel gross"...eventually it doesn't even have appeal to you.

Of course, there is a difference between junk food and homemade pumpkin pie...:)
