I'm new to the nutrition stuff - I didn't realize how bad I was eating until I kept a log of it. WOW - I'm amazed. My question is I need help with the amount of food I should be eating and when - do I eat post-workout or pre-workout?
What fats shoudl I avoid? I drink 1 whey protein shake a day - when should I be drinking it?

Thats a mouthful of questions...I'll try to help...but you will have to wait on the experts for a reliable answer...:)
1.You should be eating 10-15 cal per every pound of body weight...depending on your activity...for example...you are 150 pounds, and you have a desk job and when you get home you watch tv all night..the weekends..more sitting..you would eat 1500 cal a day.You work as a carpenter...you are moving and lifting all day...for fun you climb mountains and run marathons...you would eat 2250 cal a day...make sense?
2.whey protein is most optimal post workout...if you are lifting weights...and you are having trouble getting in the proper protien intake for a day.
3.you should always eat before a workout...you're body needs fuel to work.
4.you should avoid transfat...good fats come in olive oil, avocadoes and fish oil..to name a few.
5.read the healthy foods list stickied to the top of this forum...eat that stuff.

Most important...please fill out your profile...I know you are new and thinking "nobody reads those things"...thats what I thought...but we do...put in your current stats and what your goals are...and people will be able to answer your questions better..

OK y'all...that was my attempt...
