I'm new to this whole dieting thing. I've always eaten fattening foods and a lot of carbs. Basically I'm the normal college student.

I'm a female that’s 5'4 and 135 lbs. my goal is to get down to 120lbs. I started running 4 times a week and lifting a bit too but I know I need to diet too. I’m just having trouble starting.

How do you guys actually count the carbs, fat, cal, and ish?
Any advice for a beginner?

Oh if diet and work out the abs will I see an outcome or just look fatter?

Go to half price books or the library and get a food counts book - learn the basic content of foods that you eat often (check the nutrition forum for the grocery list for healthy eating for a great list of good foods to eat).

For a while you will want to measure things and wiehg things, a cheap food scale is really nice to have, you can find them at target or most nutrition stores.

Figure out how many calories you need (10-15 calories per pound of weight, lower for more sedentary, higher for more active) is a ballpark estimate.

Divide those calories by Protein, carbs and fat.

Try 40% protein, 30% carbs and 30% fat and see h ow you feel.

Do some reading in all the different forums for more specific info.
