There is a movement through the HMO's that gives you a better rate and discount or money back for using your gym membership on a regular basis, some gyms wave thier joiner's fees for different insurance plans.
The 10,000 steps program is another incentive plan for people with certain health ionsuirance companies - you get lower co-pays, etc. if you participtae in the plan.
Check out Shape Up, America! it is a gov't website to help inform citizens about health/weight control. http://www.shapeup.org/
If the government told you to exercise or required you to exercise there would be protests all over the place, 'land of the free' makes it hard to tell people to take care of themselves. Frredom to be out-of-sahep, unhealthy and make the rest of us pay through increased health care costs...
