I'm trying to lose a little bit of body fat while bulking up, so I was wondering how bad it really is to be mixing vanilla ice cream in with my protein shakes to augment/override the taste of the powder.
Anyone have any tips on this?

well, i used ice cream in my WEIGHT GAIN shakes because it's very caloric dense. plus, cream itself works well with proteins in putting quality weight on. and, of course, while trying to gain mass, generally a little fat comes along with it. so, i think you can see where this is going...

I agree with rev8ball completely. There are many flavorings you can use to make your protein shakes taste good. If you are using say vanilla protein, try orange sugar free jello mix in it with some shaved ice. Tastes like a dreamsicle. Be creative!!

Keep in mind guys, you don't necessarily have to add fat from food content. Excess calories (intake greater than output) from any food source is going to be stored as fat and thus you'll put weight on. My idea of bulking up is adding protein as Rev and bb1 suggest, but instead of ice cream, I add skim milk to the shake. I continue to watch fat content and eat good fats, e.g., nuts, beef, fish, eggs once in a while, etc..
Just my two cents. Hopefully I'm not too far off. lol DP

Thanks guys. I've also found ice cream to be a bit cheaper than milk if you buy it by the full gallon. I don't have the fridge space to store a lot of milk either so mixing in plain vanilla helps keep me from running to the store every day.

One more thing added about the ice cream is the high sugar content of most. Very high glycemic, kind of counterproductive to weight loss goals. Sharp insulin responses.

I suggest just buying a better tasting powder . . .
