Is having enriched wheat bread really that bad? The only store near me only sells enriched rather than whole wheat. Should I skip it altogether or will it be fine?

Find another store. Look for 100% whole grain on the label. I'm sure there's something else near you. Even Wal-Mart sells whole grain bread.

Unfortunately I live right in downtown Columbus in the business district where the closest place that even sells food is CVS pharmacy. I don't have a car so I have to walk-- even that's a mile away.
I'll look into the bus system.

I'm not an expert...but I believe enriched bread brings up your glycemic index as much as enriched white bread...I'm not positive...but I think enriched is a no go...

Ugh, well if that is true I don't want to put it in me! I bought two loafs too, for a college student money is tight :(
I mean to say that CVS sells only enriched white. The nearest actual supermarket is 2+ miles away.
I do think this meat market near by sells whole wheat sometimes though. I planned on just using enriched wheat instead if it weren't that much of a difference, but it sounds like it's not worth it.

well hang on for amy or somebody to answer...I could be wrong...but I don't think so...as a college student with low funds...you would be better off NOT to shop at CVS...you would save alot of money to plan your meals and hit the grocery store every week with a list...you pay for the conveniance of shopping at CVS...but you're doing great with your weight loss evol...keep it up!!!
oh...and when do we get a picture????:)

Thanks KC, you've been very supportive. Unfortunately I really fell off the wagon when I moved to college, I'm sure you could tell by my absence the past couple of months.
I didn't put any weight back on (doing a lot of walking here, and I tried to keep it healthy as possible for awhile), but I sure haven't felt great.
I have some old progress pics from before I moved out. I only got one from when I was 269, not when I was almost 300.
I'll post new progress pics in a month in my thread in the obese section (now that I'm back into the swing).

As I understand it, bread labeled 'wheat' bread and not whole wheat is no different from regular white bread. They are both made from refined wheat flour. The difference is for the 'wheat' bread they add colorants (maybe some molasses) to fool you into thinking it is somehow better than they white.

Your Bread cover sleeve can say 100% Wheat and really not be so, you have to read the ingredients and the very 1st words should say, Stone Ground Weat or Wheat and same for Mulit Grain Breads!

Well, white flour is wheat flour. A loaf of Webers or Wonder white bread is made from 100% wheat flour! It just isn't whole wheat. Some of the breads labeled wheat, but not WHOLE wheat, may have some whole wheat flour but not a whole lot. And like I said, molasses is used for color to fool you into thinking you're eating something healthier than the white stuff.

Those are GREAT progress photos evol!!!!You must be very pleased when you look at them...it's OK that you fell off the wagon...as long as you pick yourself up by the boot straps and keep on trucking you'll be fine!!!
oh...and yes...a picture of your face would be nice!!:)
