I went home to visit my folks last weekend, and of course, mom cooked like mad. It's almost like she tries to fatten me up when ever I make the trip home! One night we had roast (bison--at least it was lean!) with veggies (buttered), mashed potatoes (she makes them with milk and butter) and gravy, not to mention a cake for dessert! The next night went better, she did broiled salmon and rice, (thank god). She had never done salmon before, I had to help her! Has anyone else got a mother that tries to "fatten up" anyone who comes to dinner. Also, how do I get around eating this stuff without insulting my parents? It is, by the way, utterly fantastic food, but I don't need all the fat ect. I did bring my own diet flavored water, fat-free yogurt, fruit, and other clean snacks so I wouldn't get into their pantry, which is more deadly than the meals! I don't go home often because it's quite a drive, but still, I want to go occasionally!

Get yourself a dog that loves people food and make sure it sits under the table by you. :) Just kidding, I think most people go through that and from some of your previous posts, I doubt a couple of days off the wagon will hurt you.

I believe it can help you! It gives your body the chance to realx. Also it does not take one meal to add fat but months of overeating etc. Just let her know that you perfer to eat a little cleaner but I think you are missing out the best reason to go home to see mom!

whoa, there, ivan... them fightin' words! LOL!
i'll go against the grain here and thank god i had an italian mother who wanted to fatten me up. i miss her meals, and i try to duplicate (but never really can, dammit) her style. nowandays, i try to lean up a FEW of her recipes, but i know it was her meal plans that helped allow me to get where i was in powerlifting. but thats just me...

Can never duplicate moms meals here cause she never had a recipe. Still good though.

My grandparents sware that I've lost weight everytime I see them. In actuality, I've gained 15 pounds in over the last few visits, but they insist I'm lighter. They then attempt to force feed me massive amounts of food - all at one sitting naturally. I'm apparently supposed to eat til I'm full (grandparent's rules of eating) and pretty much everything is healthy as long as it's not candy. Oy.

My mom jokingly told me (as I unloaded my stock of fat-free yogurt into her fridge) that I must be the healthiest person alive! It's funny that she can respect how much care I take with my body, but that she has no desire to eat better himself. My mom is overweight, although not tremendously, and I worry about her health. My dad practically butters his butter! I want them around for a long time and it really worries me that they don't take better care of themselves.
