Okay im about as green as you can get when it comes to the right balance of exercise and nutrition. I am following the nutrition tracker on here but i cannot fathom the idea of eating twice the amount of food i have been. I know you all are living proof that this really works, but please re-assure me again that i am not going to gain weight. I am following the at home program (but using free weights) and i do a 20-30 minute cardio of either brisk walking (at a 4.0 - 4.0 mph pace) or i alternate from brisk walking for 5 minutes to one minute of all out running (7.5 mph)i do the cardios on the days and following the weight resistance program....should i be changing anything? I am one of those people that has tried all the diets out there except one that included weight training (fear of gaining)...so reassurance please :)thanks Mon. |

Go for it. You have to feed the muscles and fuel your body. You are not yo yo dieting here, you are eating right. -------------- To change it, or to create it, simply train it! Ivan |

Now you have to tell us your stats..... How tall are you, your weight etcNow why did the other diets not work? To change your body and to put on muscles, yes you need to eat enough (don't count too much on the scale since muscles are a lot heavier than fat). -------------- - Nina :o) Les Victoires éternelles sont celles du coeur. |

Hi Philia2I am 5'3.5 and currently 170lbs...I think the reasons why weight watchers and the slim fast plan didnt work is because they didnt provide me with enough food...but here im concerned about it being too much food....it's not that i am relying on the scale i do realize that muscle weighs heavier than fat, but i know some well toned individuals who are muscular who aren't 170lbs...i just need to know that i am on the right track. thanks Mon |

"but please re-assure me again that i am not going to gain weight"Mon - nobody can do that for certain. The eating frequency is the key but only you can be the final judge for the amounts. The ft targets are generic and you'll have to fine tune it to fit your system. You do want to shoot for the maximum intake that you can get but you still have to stay in a calorie deficit to lose weight. You just need to find that happy medium where it's a minor deficit and not a trigger for your metabolism to shut down. As everyone has said, the scales are an accurate indicator but your measurements/body fat are. Make sure you know what your starting point is and them monitor it every week or so. Keep it fun and not some dreaded thing you think you have to do daily. Good luck and you'll get there. |

Ok - where's that post edit function. :) Fast fingers should have said - the scales are NOT an accurate indicator |

Yeah, like Philia2 said, give us your stats and what the nutrition planner said. I've found that it's often a little high, so we should be able to adjust the numbers for you. |

First off Myways2 I would change your protein/carb ratio. You are on a 2:1 ratio carb to protein. To gain muscle and lose fat, this would be the place to start. 1360 of your total calories are coming from carbs, while only 680 calories are from protein. this is a 30/60/10 carb/protein/fat diet.I don't think this is conducive to fat loss, more of muscle gain diet if anything. this is only half what you want. A good idea may be to change your ratios to more of a 50/35/15 prot/carb/fat diet. This will insure proper amounts of protien for some muscle gain, while cutting carbs for fat loss. Do this for a while, and as you get leaner, more adjustments can be made. I think this ratio may fit you better. Good luck. |

The total calories sound okay. You could bring it down to about 2000 if you wanted and still be safely losing weight. Like bb1 said, slash the carb intake and go closer to the macronutrient ratios that he listed. If you cut your calories too sharply, your body enters starvation mode and you will 1) lose muscle, 2) have reduced energy and 3) store more calories as fat. Surprise! A lot of people will lose weight quickly by hacking their calories very sharply, but they will lose a lot of muscle and hit a wall shortly. Then they will most likely gain back a lot of the weight and not a lot of the muscle and that's no fun. -------------- "Don't follow leaders and watch your parking meters!" -- Bob Dylan |
