I read through a *few* of the threads regarding the protein shakes and i was wondering if i could just get a confirmation on something.

I am not able to work out in the am during the week. I go after work and am usually out of the gym by 6:30 pm.

If i understand correctly, i shold be drinking my protein shake within an hour after my working. However, Im in bed by 9:30pm. Therefore, am i defeating the purpose? I thought about replacing breafkast with the shake, but my job is very sedentary and i didnt think the shake would be as benficial that way either..

I bought the brand Perfect Low Carb Isopure dutch chocolate and only use one scoop which keeps the calories down to 110 and then i add a Tablespoon of Peanut Butter too.. even with only having one scoop its 25g of protein and then adding w/e the peanut butter contributes..

basically my question is: which is better? for breakfast? or stick with after workout even though its close to bedtime..

You should always have something pwo. Don't worry about gainng weight, if your body needs nourishment you have to supply it, and if you are in a caloric deficit it is going to be tough to accumulate fat.

I do both, 1 in morning with oats in a shake and PWO. I will also at times have a shake on it's on.

I like to mix other protiens in my shakes even in PWO, Milk and Raw Egg Whites!

If you don't 'recover' from your workout, at the very best scenario your subsequent workouts will suffer. I would and never do skimp on recovery. Use the rest of your diet if fat loss is your goal.

BB correct me if I am wrong, but if you did not want to use a shake you could eat a meal?

thats a good question...is there a benefit of having a protein shake instead of a meal/snack?

I have a 1200 calorie a day budget.. i want to get the most for my calories..im finding it hard to get my minimum protein in :( (thats why i thought i might incorporate the protein shake)...i do well keeping within my allowed fat range..

Your body will digest/process the shake a lot faster than the meal. That is very important post work out. I am sure BB will have a more scientific reason, but that is the main reason for the shake.
