Hi, I'm not completely new to working out. I've been doing it for a couple of years, just never really see the results I've wanted to see.
I would like some help from a dude who HAS been where I am now and has acheived great results.

I'm 5'6, 115. If you've been where I am, please - any advice would be appreciated.

-Also... someone told me that prohormones might work, but i've never tried.

Have your pwo shake immediately, and then when you get home cook your meal.

that sounds like a really good idea. so i can add ice cream to my shake and instead of milk use heavy cream. The spaghetti thing sounds excellent. lord knows i love pastas. The thing is.. i don't work out at home and it will take a while once i get home to prepare it.. not forever, but it will take time nonetheless... what should I do in between the time i leave the gym downtown and make my way uptown? Drink a protein shake? (minus the ice cream and heavy cream)... or something else?

I must state here that to add to my first post....really is a 'misnomer' the body typing.

For instance take person who was fat. Classic endomorph, right? Now he diets and loses fat, gains muscle, what is he now?

Has his/her physiology or metabolism changed in some manner?

This works vice versa...for instance I was skinny, what would have been classified ecto...gained muscle and weight. Now what am I?

See what I am saying? So, don't fall into that trap....just get your diet in order, get plenty of rest. Keep the reps down, add weight to the bar.

Any kind of good protein will work. Pick your favorite flavor and buy it. Cheap as you can go...calories are your friend right now. Add a scoop of ice cream to your shake also. I used to do this all the time trying to gain, eat a plate of spaghetti and a 1/2 lb. ground round burger broiled. :) (used to eat this after every training session). Seriously, if you are training hard, this will add weight to the bar. Add weight to the bar, 9 out of 10 times you are gaining muscle.

Awesome... which protein shake brand do you recommend? I've been using Muscle Milk for almost two years now and it's kinda getting old... I think i'm ready for something new. Banana is a good idea. Thanks!

Use milk and heavy cream. Even add a banana. Outstanding taste as well as quality calories. In fact, heavy cream whene not dieting can rival any fats of quality.

I had myself checked out. Doctor said my thyroid is normal and that I'm very healthy... I wanted to say... how the hell am i "very" healthy if I'm so meager looking... I don't look healthy if you ask me...

Well, anyway... about the heavy cream, that's a good idea. I should substitute that instead of milk?

Quoting from bb1fit:

Well, I speak from the standpoint of a normal healthy individual. If there are underlying factors...hypothyroid for instance...then this will need to be addressed.

If not, then inadequate rest is a big thing. If you are 'playing' outside your recovery threshold, then you will not gain and will lose.

Calorie intake is not really a daily thing, it is more like an average intake. If you are not on a 'steady' diet, which you most certainly are not, then averaging higher caloric intake than expenditure more often than not will and has to result in weight gain.

Look for calorie dense foods...think beef, peanut butter, ice cream, heavy cream in your shakes...

I try eating about 3500 calories a day... and my metabolism just burns allllll of that up... it doesn't make any sense. sometimes i'll even eat 4500 and wind up feeling luggish all day. i eat all of this and not even an ounce of fat develops... what's up with that?
I lift very heavy... usually with a spotter cuz i try to do about max 5 reps, then 4, then 3 or so... usually doing about 3 or 4 sets.

So, what kind of diet am I supposed so follow if there's "no such thing" as a hard gainer.
After all, there's only so much I can eat before I start to feel sick and my body wants to reject it.

KA hit the nail on the head....there is no such thing really as a hard gainer..just someone who is not eating enough. I was where you are, before I learned. Even though someone else the exact same size as you is eating 'X' amount of calories and gaining like a weed, does not mean the same will work for you. Too many factors go into the right amount of calories. I will tell you to gain normally for most 18-20 calories per lb. of bodyweight will do the job.

Keep adding weight to the bar(this is your main goal to gain), don't worry about doing a ton of sets. This will get you nowhere. Better to go heavy, do what you can, go home, eat, rest, and repeat as needed. I would recommend 3 days of rest too...you do not grow in the gym though it may feel like it, it is just the vehicle.

When trying to gain weight, you normally rarely ever experience and 'empty stomach'. By the time you drink your pwo shake and drive home and cook, gastric emptying will have occurred, and you will be more than ready for your whole food meal.
