My friend is convinced that if you are going to eat sweets at all, occasionally and in small quantities, if you are trying to watch your weight, morning is the best time to eat them. His reasoning is that your body will be able to burn them throughout the day, as opposed to eating them for dessert at night, when there is not enough time before bed to burn them off. But this theory kind of goes against what I always thought - that you should not eat sugars in the morning, just a healthy breakfast. I would be curious to know what people think about this idea of dessert in the morning, and what validations/explanations there are for the pros and cons?? Thanks!

What kind of sweets/ sugars are you talking about?

You know it all comes down to the total daily (weekly, monthly...) calorie intake....
It's true that by eating "bad" food early in the day is better than eating it just before bedtime, BUT it'll still be BAD food. So 1) it'll always give a lot of extra empty calories and another important thing 2) it'll make you feel full and take place from good healthy nutrition.
Sugar can be good, but everything in moderation......

I am talking about dessert-type sugars, like a cookie, a candy, a small piece of cake (of course provided that they are not eaten every day and in moderation)

If you MUST, then yes, the morning is probably the best time. Your body metabolizes carbs more effectively early in the day. If you eat sugar before bed, it is far more likely to go to fat. But tell your friend not to use this as an excuse to binge in the morning expecting no consequences.

Since it's the morning one's body deserves better nutrition to wake it up. The word breakfast comes from the words breaking the fast, which your body was in (a Fast) while asleep. But I am assuming these sugars are after breakfast. It will only make one feel hungry sooner.
