My husband is no mechanic...he'll get out there and tinker with the jeep...but my car...forget it.I have a 00 altima...it only has just over 40,000 miles..it was in ca. with my dad while we were overseas, hardly driven...so I figure whats wrong with it has to be simple, not to many miles..can't be that bad...but my husband spent over 5 hours at his bro-in-laws trying to fix it...it's still broken...so I figure if I tell some of you guys..maybe you can guide me to where the problem may lie...it feels like it wants to stall while at a stop light...like a flutter I guess...when it's driving it's fine...just when it's ideling it flutters. They changed the spark plugs and wires...it won't be long before it ends up at the dealer and I know it's something small...can you guys lead me in the right direction??
What do you think is the problem?? Thanks:) |

Is it fuel injected? Just might need to get serviced and cleaned. Make sure it isn't clogged and it will clean out the old fuel that's been sitting in there.-------------- Bettia To be motivated, motivate others! |

Timing might be out.

Sounds like a vacuum hose but the newer models leave us shade tree mechanics out in the cold.

could even be the air filter also... there are numerous things that can cause this, without actually looking at it, you can't really speculate anything.

I guarantee you it is the Oxygen Sensor! These motors are all computerized now and if your not a mechanic don't touch it. Yes, I check the air pressure! hehe..
I'm talking computers... I had a 1979 1/2 ton. I could climb right into the engine compartment.... changed everything (for the most part) myself. Now they have so much crap shoved under the hood, I leave them alone. The reason I don't change the oil is this: in the last vehicle I had, in order to change the oil, I needed to put the thing on blocks, remove the drivers wheel to take off the oil filter. Not gonna happen. In the old days (the 80's) I could slide under my truck and do it all with no problems. Now you need a wrench worth a month's salary just to reach a spark plug and be double jointed just to check the tranny fluid. So, I'm not lazy, just would rather have someone else to blame if things go wrong. ============ Quoting from ravenbeauty: wow Tim, changing oil? that's got to be the easiest thing next to putting air in the tire... don't tell me you don't do that either? I also had a car that had a MAP sensor... something to do with the manifold. I believe it stalled while idling... it was a $90 chip that fried every year. -------------- I see the words you are typing, but all I read is *click*click*click* Be here. Live. Love. Hope. Now. Could be the right rear hub cap not on properly, not allowing the right number of balanced rpms which will in turn through the other left wheel sensor, throw it off of calibration. KC it is most likely either what I said or Carivan, but if it is the oxygen sensor, it would most likely be the rear (secondary) OS, as it is the one the controls the air/fuel ratio that runs through your exhaust system.
You can go to www.autozone.com for a free online repair gudes for your vehicle, it can show you how to replace the Oxygen Sensors, which are fairly easy if it is the direct fit, don't get a universal one if you're hubby isn't too savvy with cars. If they don't have the exact year, you can still use the prior couple of years as the exhaust and fuel set up is basically the same layout. -------------- Bettia To be motivated, motivate others! |

It seems to be some gasket...no valve...I don't remember now...something...where that part costs 22$ but the labor is 780$!!!!!!Yes...he went to the dealer...so he calls and says he'll call my dad(gee...where have I heard that before...couldn't have been ME)...then he called his friend who restores cars for fun(gee...another novel idea I heard somewhere before going to the dealer)and apparently they will be working on it sunday...something about the car having sat..well not sat but being driven only a few thousand miles a year...for the three years we were gone.So not fixed yet...but getting there.-------------- \\"If you had one shot...or one opportunity to seize all you ever wanted...in one moment...would you capture it...or just let it slip\\" eminem |

I love it. All the teenie, inexpensive parts are deep inside the motor so the labour winds up being worth more than the car. Well, maybe not in this case, but in mine, anyway.

I know you are all just DYING to kow what happened with my car....
It's finaly fixed...took TWO days!!!!Had to take it to a mechanic...this one LITTLE peice was in the middle of the engine so the whole thing was going to have to be taken apart...I put my foot down on letting the husband and friend take the engine apart...I knew they could get it apart...but the back together again part made me nervous...so a mechanis did it...450...for an $11 part...still floors me...but better than $780!!!!! -------------- \\"If you had one shot...or one opportunity to seize all you ever wanted...in one moment...would you capture it...or just let it slip\\" eminem |

what part was it? Alot of time for future reference autozone or another parts store will pull the codes for you, and that can give you something to look up via google. Stalling at idle is most of the time O2 or intake related to the MAP or MAF sensors.
Glad to see it's fixed though. |

They took it to autozone...code said it was the ...um....spark plugs...that was it...but they had just replaced those...it was worth taking to the dealer...was correctly diagnosed...it was something with the air hose...one of the gaskets. The mechanic saved it...there was a huge whole in it...you could see how it might cause a little problem.:)
I'm glad its fixed too...but I really wanted a NEW car... I dont mind for things to break...then I get NEW...been waiting on this microwave to break for 15 YEARS... might be time for the tin foil.... -------------- "But more than anything, more than anything, My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it to, Your dreams stay big, and your worries stay small, You never need to carry more than you can hold" My Wish Rascall Flats I sing this song to my kids...but I realized..it works for yall too.... |
