I know the protein powders out there are not sold as mrp's but when I mix it with skim milk it seems that the calorie makeup is about the same minus the fiber. The mrp's can be a bit costly and the protein powders are relatively inexpensive along with the milk. Is the a reasonable replacement for a meal replacement :-)

I would add some fibrous vegetables or fruit to it, along with a multivitamin.

There are a couple general differences between (whey) protein powder and MRP's. Generally, MRP's consist of a blend of protein types (some combo of whey, casein, egg, milk and soy), while your traditional 5lb jug protein powders are all whey. Bodybuilding and athletic gains have been shown to be stronger when using a casein supplement rather than whey (except post workout when whey is more appropriate). MRP's also often contain moderate levels of vitamins and minerals. As bb1 said, that can be accomplished just as well with a multivitamin. I have both MRP's and whey powder, but that is obviously not an option for everyone. The protein in milk is about 20% whey and 80% casein, meaning you can get a good deal of casein protein from milk as well.
