I currently do three exercises per muscle group. So 3 sets with 12 reps. I have read that you should add weight to every set. Does this have to be done in order to get a gain?? Right now I use enough weight that I can complete my first 12 reps, then (lifting the same weight) I "fail" to complete the full 12 reps on the last two sets. I can get anywhere from 8-10 reps.
Also when I "fail" at say 8 reps,,,can I stop for a second to let my muscles stop burning then complete the rest? Or should I just stop there?
Thank you all in advance!!!:)

Hi there, it depends on what your training goals are. Need a little more detail as to what you are trying to accomplish before a proper answer can be given.

I weigh about 150lbs and want to get down to about 140 or 135... but I also want to be toned. So I do my weight lifting 5-6 days a week and do cardio probably 4-5 days a week. I would like to do this by summer time,,,if possible.

how is your diet looking? All three play an avid role of accomplishing these goals. Proper nutrition/cardio/weight training.

Have you utilized the free "Weight Loss & Tone" exercise program on here yet? If not, I would consider trying this out. It will give you a tailored program.

On a side note, if you are looking to "tone" and lose weigh higher reps/lower weights on your sets, you should at least do 2 different types of exercises per muscle group.

Good luck!

I thought the whole low weight higher rep thing didn't work!!??
I want to build lean muscle as well as lose the weight. Yes I have used the the weight loss and tone program on here. The weight lifting schedule that ft provided, wasn't enough for me, so I modified it by adding a few more exercises. So as of now, I have a three day split program that works my entire body.
I am still trying to get my diet in hand. I have started eating better (more fish, chicken, vegies, etc.) I have been reading up on alot of the diet threads.
I really just want to know about my sets and completing or "failing" at those. Not about what program to use.
