Greetings all. After receiving feedback that this would be a very good idea, I will now be posting various info on this topic. Although it is mainly geared towards women, the same info can hold true for men as well. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Take the info contained in future posts to heart, it may protect you and/or your family. As a matter of fact, in one of my self defense classes, a woman I had taught before came to another one of my classes and informed me afterwards that she had been attacked after the first class she attended, but because of what she had learned, she was able to get away, SAFELY. Keep in mind statistics show that 1 in every 4 women will be sexually assaulted at some point in their life. Don't let yourself be one of the 25%. Best regards and STAY SAFE!

If you are confronted by an assailant, be assertive. Look him in the eye and say ?NO!!!? Don?t be surprised if the creep doesn?t seem to take you seriously. To most of them, NO means YES. You may need to reestablish your doctrine by saying it louder or in other ways to get his attention and eliminating you as an easy target. What exactly does NO mean? With respect to women, it means (use superlatives for effect, you'll understand why later):

-- YOUR ASSUMPTION IS ENTIRELY MISTAKEN
-- YOU ARE BEING RUDE
-- LEAVE ME ALONE
-- GO FLY A KITE
-- GET OUT OF MY LIFE
-- BUZZ OFF
-- GET THE F!*K OUT OF MY FACE
-- TAKE A HIKE
-- GET LOST, A!*HOLE
-- GO AWAY, JERKOFF
-- GO JUMP OFF A CLIFF
-- TAKE A LONG WALK OFF A SHORT DOCK
-- GO TAKE A FLYING F!*K AT A ROLLING DONUT
-- IN YOUR WILDEST DREAMS AND MY WORST NIGHTMARE
-- GET A LIFE!
-- YOU MUST BE JOKING (Don't laugh at the size, it'll only
make him madder)
-- HANDS OFF, FREAK
-- NEVER WITH A JERK LIKE YOU
-- NO BLOODY FLAMING WAY
-- ABSOLUTELY NOT
-- FALL OFF THE EDGE OF THE EARTH
-- DON?T TOUCH ME
-- GET YOUR HANDS OFF ME
-- YOU CAN?T RAPE A .38
-- OVER YOUR DEAD BODY
BUT ESPECIALLY,
-- LEAVE ME ALONE OR I WILL HURT YOU

NO!

NO MEANS NO!!!!!!!!!!

WHAT PART OF NO DON?T YOU UNDERSTAND?

Obviously, the best alternative is to not be in the situation in the first place, but if it cannot be prevented, you may need to defend yourself. Canadian and American Criminal law states that you can use any reasonable force to defend yourself against an attack. This means whatever you need to do at the time of the attack in order to provide the ability to GET AWAY is considered ?reasonable force?. Again, that's in order to "GET AWAY" not stick around and implement "Jane Fune Do" on your attacker! Sure they deserve it, but you could find yourself in a worse situation. Analyze it later at a safe distance. Don't worry, he'll get his in the end.

More to come...TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF!!

Andrew great post. However, self defense just became legal in Georgia in 2006. I would have to assume, from that fact that, there may be other states that need to deal with this issue as well.

On the other hand I personally think that everyone, male and female should know how to defend themselves and/or know their surroundings well enough not to get into a situation they may need to. Keep up the information. It may just be the thing that saves the life of a FT member.

Enjoy!!

ALERTNESS
Surprise is a normal situation during an attack. As long as you keep your wits about you, you can turn the tables on your assailant and surprise him. Most assailants are street smart, meaning they've grown up on the streets and are used to conflict. It's nothing new to them. Yet, they don't expect a woman especially to be able to react effectively against them. Normally, they will not understand the concept that, with the appropriate knowledge, you can escape from an attack leaving your assailant in A LOT of pain, if not incapable of giving chase to you. No matter what he may know about making you a victim, he has no idea of what you can or will do. He cannot read your mind and does not expect you to fight back effectively. He will probably expect you to cry, plead, cringe, or struggle ineffectively. Attackers are normally attracted to people whom they believe to be smaller and weaker than they and often think that no woman is a match for them. By defending yourself during an attack and implementing appropriate techniques for the situation, you are showing that you are someone to be reckoned with. When you defend yourself, he will be the one who is surprised and incapacitated, then you escape. Don?t stick around and decide that since your efforts worked in stopping the attack you'll finish him off. You may have given him the chance to redeem himself. Leave the situation before you find yourself in another. Being active through weight training, cardio, and proper diet will keep you healthy and in a solid condition to protect yourself and get away if the case dictates it...STAY SAFE!! More to come.

Best regards.
