Hi all. I'm a 30 year old female, I've been eating healthy and exercising regularly for some time now. The weight has been coming off slow and steady, however I find that I'm consistantly falling below 1200 calories per day by the time that the calories burned during exercise are figured in. It's very frustrating, as I'm very concious to try to get enough calories to cover that extra burn as I realize how dangerous it is to eat too little, but seem to keep falling short. UGH! I work out at 4:30 in the AM, cardio and weights, its the only time that I have. I usually eat a banana on the way to the gym, but am considering incorporating a protien shake (Whey Protien) and have also considered adding in some Wheat Grass? Not only for the health benefit, but also the added caloric intake on days that I work out. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Add the whey protein and then make up in your other meals too by adding a little extra complex carbs (oats, brown rice, etc). the wheat grass is up to you, I used to take it and I think greens supplements are great, but the taste, blech.

Thanks asimmer. Yeah, the thought of the taste of wheat grass makes me want to wretch. I started forcing myself to eat fish after years of swearing off of it (dislike the taste). I don't know that I can force fish AND wheat grass at the same time. I might as well throw in a good ol glass of caster oil to top it off! ha ha.
Thanks again. You're pics are very inspirational! I think I should leave work and go to the gym. ;)

Hey, I want to leave work and go to the gym, too. Can I get permission?

Yes! I think we should all leave work and go to the gym! It could be written off as a business expense don't you think? All the mental health benefits of exercise? It's cheaper than high rate health insurance! ha ha.

There have been studies that prove healthy employees, who exercise regularily, are more productive and miss less days of work due to illness...I think all businesses should give you time to work out during the day!

There was just an article in the paper yesterday about Dole foods giving their employees free fresh fruit and vegetables at break time in the morning and afternoon and their employees all got healthier - lower cholesterol, lower blood pressure...imagine!

That's a great idea. I wish they would offer fresh fruit and vegetables here instead of the vending machines full of chocolate and chips. I just bring a large lunch bag every day that has my lunch and am and pm snacks and bottled water so I never need to go to the vending machine. As far as working out, with 2 kids, I have to go at 4:20 in the am before work. It would be nice to have some time during the day to do it.
BTW asimmer, I tried a Whey protein shake before my workout this morning. Tasted gross, but I got a major energy boost about 10 minutes into my cardio that I haven't gotten before. Feeling much more awake this morning too. Thanks for the tips!

lots of ways to make the shake taste better - try throwing it in the blender with some frozen berries and a pinch of splenda or stevia.
