Hi:

I am 32 years old female. I am asthmatic. I am looking to increase my respiratory strength and also looking to lose about 100 pounds (yes I am obese) but am young and willing to work extremely hard.

This week, I started working out every morning at Bally's Sports Club. I am doing twenty minute elliptical and thirty minute strength training. I push myself, but am not following any particular plan.

I did check out the plan freetrainers made for me. However, I can't do some things because of my weight yet - like twist crunches. Should I just skip those things?

And then, should I always do twenty minute - thirty minute cardio? (I see a lot of people doing thirty minutes and I am trying to build up to it - I am very out of shape, asthmatic, and just plain fat - but again willing to try really hard.)

Before going to grad school (wherein I was poor and couldn't afford good food or the gym), I was doing Curves and lost a lot of weight that way (but gained back at grad school). However, I do not have access to Curves now - so I joined Bally's and without a specific pre-determined work out plan (like at Curves - doing the circuit) - I just feel SO lost. I do not even know if I'm doing the exercises right! And I definitely cannot afford their expensive personal trainer. Any advice you can give would be considered.

Thank you.

dbw... welcome! Dont feel lost you have come to the right place! It may take a few days.. or week.. but the help and information you seek is here on FT. Work the program that FT laid out for you. All you can do is your best. If you cant get the twist crunches... you will in time. Just keep working and try them everytime they are on your plan. One day in the very near future you will fnd yourself doing them with no problems at all. Check out the diet thread under the WSSC threads in the general forum. It is a GREAT diet and following that along with your work out you will see great results. Again welcome.. dont feel lost there are a few thousand beacons of light out here on FT willing to help guide you to your goals and support you along the way.

My Catahoula did it.

I saw a book titled "Sex for Dummies" and wondered why
anyone would teach dumb people how to reproduce?

Hi dbw! Congrats on your pep and enthusiam! Don't worry so much about doing the "wrong exercises" or not doing enough, etc. You will get into a rhythm and become more comfortable with which workouts to do, etc. In the meantime, there are some exercises that I am unable to do as the small gym I attend does not have the machines specifically needed for some exercises (and a modified version is not possible). In those cases I will go to the exercise portion of this site. You can look at different muscle groups that you want to work (in your case your obliques) and it will give you alternative exercise options. Good luck!
