so gold?s gym closed and we are experiencing a slight increase in members of late? all shapes, sizes, races, cultures and??..gender?..sooooo?

there is a point to this post?.please bear with me?

?well late last week i observed a very skinny, pale, white male in spandex biking shorts and shirt in the weight training room?i had never seen him before?he was with a *regular* who also wears the same type of oufit?the *regular* will come in the back from time to time to do some light arm work with dumbells after extensive cardio on the elliptiacal......?the new member, on that particular day, was using a weighted bar(approx 12#) to do some side bends?.he was doing them quite quickly and was moving his hips and buttocks also?.needless to say he was doing this right in front of the dumbell racks at the mirror?at first i just passed it off as someone working their obliques/sides with improper form?however, after a few mins..it dawned on me?this guy is showing off?.for who tho??for his partner??or does his partner enjoy seeing his *pet* dancing in front of the *big boys*??.

They were back again today?with the same little routine?.

why do i find this inapropriate?..its no different then some young little cardio ho?s coming back to prance around and show off for 5 mins before they head back up front to finish on the treadmill?.its no different then when i wear my shortest shorts on leg day purposely so that when i do my stiff leg DL you can see my amazingly tight hammies?.or is it?

i dont consider myself prejudice?i am open to all types of lifestyles?i have a degree in sociology for gawd?s sake?but then why i am somewhat repulsed??on the other hand i find it amusing for a few mins?..

Nevertheless, i will welcome the newest exhibit?i will observe and learn?..and in the meantime i will work 10x harder on my hammies :O

I lift at home now, but when I did exercise at a gym, I rarely noticed anyone. I got in, focused my energy on lifting, and got out. But, that's just me :)

I agree that staying focused is a very important key in lifting..its one reason why i use a headset most of the time now..when i do, ppl have less of a tendency to stop me to talk and/or ask questions..

Even as hard as I workout, i still take the time to observe others..its one way how i learned what to and not to do...when i saw a routine someone was using that i thought might be good, i would actually time their breaks between sets...counted their reps etc...i watch form...i ask questions...im not afraid to approach someone to *pick their brain*...AFTER my own workout ill sometimes take my protein shake back to the weight room and just sit and watch while i sip on it.....

i know my initial post makes it sound like i am wrapped up more socially than otherwise....but i went through that stage long ago and am over it..hehehehe....my own workout comes first then if i have time i take the time to help *noobs* that *pick MY brain now*...

it was just really hard NOT to notice this scenario especially when its literally right in your face...and I actually posted it to make the point that it IS easy to get wrapped up in the more *social* aspect of the gym...it seemed to be thats what they were there for which made them look especially *out of place*...

I know you are a very hard worker Velasca. I didn't intend for it to sound otherwise. But, I;ve met way too many people that get more into the social clicks at the gym!!

yeah...my gym isnt extremely clicky...we all usually stay in our neutral corners (cardio jockeys and builders)..but every now and then you get those that cross the line and its annoying...

I'm with you Conan...mainly because I kinda did that the other day.

I had to wait on the incline bench because some bimbo was sitting on it, talking on her cell phone and fluffing her hair in the mirror. So, I kicked the :dumbbell: over and hit her right on her ankle bone. Needless to say, she complained to the manager who assured her that it was probably and accident.

It wasn't. I meant to do it and I hope it left a bruise. This chick is in there all the time and I have yet to see her work out unless a hot guy is in the general vacinity. Makes me sick to my stomach. Really.

Sometimes it takes an rap on the noggin' (or ankle) to get the message across.

Believe me, these folks are in every gym. I have belonged to numerous of them, occasionally go to a new gym just for a change, and they are there too!

Dfly - I am so glad the grapefruit wasn't in my mouth when I read your post - grapefruit up the nose would be no good!

There is a guy at my gym who does a set, then calls someone and walks around (or sits on the only incline bench) and chats for a while, then does a set and repeats....and he wears a belt, no matter what exercise he is doing. man.

Yep - they are everywhere!

Velasca - i think you should stand right next to him and do some warm up db sldl's :)
