I know i should try to take in the highest % of protein but the question is which is next carbs or fats i am lean and want to just gain muscle ..I believe this statement is saying carbs are not so im portant here it is
Remember there are essential fatty acids and amino acids but there are no essential carbohydrates.Your body can manufacture the carbohydrates it needs but not the fats and proteins it needs on a daily basis. The required fats and amino acids must be ingested in either whole foods or specific supplements.
So would a good % for a lean person trying to gain mass be from calories--- 40% protein 35 % fats and 25 % carbs??? Thanks for any info!!!!

Yes, even a 50/20/30 P/C/F ratio is very good, even ideal for gaining lean mass and losing fat. Your fat sources of course should be healthy ones, flax oil, fish oils, olive oil, etc. Split it up throughout the day. A tbsp.of normal flax oil for example is 10 gr. fat and 90 calories. Fat has 9 calories per gram. So, if you cook in olive oil, or even eat tuna in olive oil, have a tbsp. of flax 2 times per day, and a couple tbsp. of peanut butter, even a can of salmon (6oz.), and you should be getting in the ballpark. I am assuming you have the carbs and protein thing down.

U should definately forget about the caps, and go for the liquid form. you can get the fat from ur supplements, but u can also get it from many foods like Nuts(walnuts, almonds, cashews etc...) olive oil, organic eggs, salmon and most fish. Doesnt need to be from just the supplements.

The flax oil caps are just fine, but as I have said before, I prefer the liquid for a couple reasons. One is simply that it is so much easier to just take a tbsp. and be done, where it takes 10 capsules to equal the same. And two, the capsules are not as cost efficient. To me, these sway me towards the liquid. The choice of course is yours. Taste is a consideration, they usually don't taste real good. Udo's makes an orange flavored that is actually not bad. Another option is to use the oil with your favorite salad dressing, or mix it in your protein shakes. And as of course Shaolin says, by all means do not make all fats from supps. As earlier posted, salmon and nuts are great sources, with salmon probably tops.

I would think bb1fit is talking about percentages here.

There's a lot of conflicting information about the role carbs play in a diet. Personally, I favor a higher carb intake for mass gain, particularly in younger individuals with faster metabolism. I usually bulk with a 40-30-30 C-P-F or 30-40-30 C-P-F. For me, 20% of calories on my bulking diet is only 150, which just doesn't give me enough juice for workouts. I like to get close to 300 when bulking.
The original statement that you're referring to doesn't necessarily indicate that carbs are unimportant, but that you need not seek out certain types of carbs. I, personally, was not aware that there was a such thing as 'essential carbs' as that statement implies.
