Last year I tried using Creatine, and while I felt I was seeing minimal results near the end of the cycle I was beginning to feel pain in my kidney/liver. Mind you, at the time I was smoking and drinking too and I don't do neither now.
A friend suggested that before starting up with Creatine I should condition myself by taking it once a day for 7 days regardless of my workout routine, THEN in the weeks that follow I should use it after every workout.
I was wondering if there is a best way to approach using creatine, any suggestions?

I like taking 1/2 30 minutes before working out and the other half right after working out.

Depends on person and goals. I take mine after workout simply because it has 32g of sugar, so i take my protein shake immediately before. Tried mixing them together and that was just NASTY!!

Creatine had nothing to do with your kidney/liver 'problems'.
