Yes often it's quite fat but you also got good protein, some creatine and other needed aminos. Honestly, I wouldn't worry too much about the fat in the meat but more about the sauce and French fries people normally eat with their steak!! -------------- - Nina :o) Les Victoires éternelles sont celles du coeur. |

Agree with Philia2, red meat isn't really anything to worry yourself about. It tends to get a bad rep. I think one needs to use common sense though. I eat red meat 4-5 times a week but, I choose really lean cuts and trim as much of the excess fat as I can. I primarily eat it for the protein; it's loaded. I also eat tuna 3-4 times a week for the omega-3 fats and added protein there too.Hope this helped. |

There is absolutely nothing wrong with eating LEAN red meat a couple times a week. The only time it really wouldn't be is if you are on a really calorie concious diet. It is higher in calories than say chicken or turkey by far, but also much higher in protein and other essentials. This is the media again, blasting red meat. Stay away from the fatty cuts, and you will be fine. 93% lean or better.-------------- Failing to plan is like planning to fail! |

I'm eating red meat as I type this. If I couldn't have it, I think I'd cry. When I buy ground beef, I always buy the 7% type. When I buy steak, I always get the ones that have the least amount of fat in the meat itself (you can cut the fat around the outside off). There's nothing wrong with red meat; just use common sense when buying it.-------------- --JBennett "I've up-ed my intensity.... now up yours!" "Pain is only weakness leaving the body." Mmmmmmmmmmmm........Steeeak (wipes drool off chin). I don't know if it's available anywhere else, but out here I buy 4% ground beef. It even has the AHA's seal of approval! And it is damn good. Which reminds me: I remember hearing this comedian remark about vegans (and this is in no way meant as a slam towards them, but it is funny!). He said "I was having dinner at a resturant with vegetarian friend of mine. Her salad came out first, and then my steak. She instantly started in on me being a carnivore. She said 'Ya know, if you became a vegetarian, you'd live longer!' So I took my fork, stuck it in the steak, held it up and said 'You see this steak? This used to be a cow. It was a vegetarian, and look how far it got him!'" -------------- Michael "Trample the weak; hurdle the dead!" |

I like that vegan joke.... I couldn't live without the red meat. Anything Ending in loin is good. For minced meat I grind my own from sirloin and get rid of all the fat. It is a little dry, but salsa takes care of that or the tomatoe sauce is good with it too.-------------- Nothing is too small to know, and nothing is too big to attempt! Ivan Montreal Canada |

A lot of people think of vegetarianism as more healthy than an omnivorous diet. However, the only reason that is true is because most American omnivores eat like crap. Being a vegetarian cuts out saturated fat intake almost entirely and if the veg's diet is not based on french fries and Morningstar brand frozen stuff, it reduces trans fatty acids significantly. However, if you eat properly, like the folks on this board, a vegetarian diet is no more healthy than an omnivorous diet. Now, back to the topic. In small amounts, saturated fat actually is beneficial to males in gaining muscle. Saturated fat increases testosterone more than other dietary fats. That being said, it's still bad for your heart in large amounts. Keeping intake at about 25% of your total intake (but no more than about 30g) is probably a good guideline. To find the lowest fat red meats, look for steaks with loin or round in the name. You'll notice that those cuts have significantly less white coloration (fat) in them. And they really do taste good. Agains this is not a knock to the Vegans on the board, but I think it is all most impossible to get huge large muscles witha vegan diet....I know some out there may have it but those are the exceptions. And Rev, where is your training journal updates? BTW funny joke LONG LIVE STEAK!!!!!!!!!(drooling)-------------- IF YOU CAN STILL ITCH YOUR NOSE AFTER ARM DAY, GO DO ANOTHER SET!!! |

Haven't hit the journal lately because I'm in the middle of my volume cycle, and it would probably bore the hell outta everyone if I just entered what I did every single day (LOL!). So, basically, I post something when I change cycles, break a plateau, etc, etc. Thanks very much, though, for asking. I'll keep you updated...-------------- Michael "Trample the weak; hurdle the dead!" |
