What are they teaching at WW anyway!?

I'm not bashing on Weight Watchers or anything, because I guess I don't know enough about their programs. I've tried similar programs in the past and lost weight, but never kept it off because it was a "diet". Didn't really teach me the lifestyle changes needed.
So, my assistant has started Weight Watchers. She tells me that she doesn't have the will power to drink nasty shakes (my whey protien snack drinks), or eat leafy greens, or turkey for a snack, etc. So, she's on the "points plan". The other day she ate a Qdoba burrito for lunch, and a slice of bread for dinner and was very proud because she stayed within her point guidelines. WTF???
As far as exercise, she says that she chases her children enough that she doesn't need to exercise, which I won't even get started on. So, what is WW teaching their members anyway, if you can eat a Qdoba Burrito and a slice of bread and think it's a good choice? Then burn it off by playing with your kids for 10 minutes? YIKES!

For some, the system works. Others I've come in contact with abuse it. I knew someone who saved all their points so they could go drinking on the weekend. Not really the way you're supposed to do it.

Yeah, that has been my main arguement with WW. People szave their points up for unhealthy foods and are not changing over to a healthier lifestyle.

But WW still gets their money ....

Some people do save and misuse points in the WW plan. However, that is not what WW teaches. They place emphasis on "healthy" eating for the average joe. Which the average joe does eat processed foods and have minimal base on eating fresh foods. I will say that the ww program has improved over the years, and are encouraging more fresh veg/fruit/lean meats but they cater to the woman with 3 kids, 2 dogs a minivan running from ballet to soccer and has time to fix her kids mac and cheese from a box and shove a lean cuisine in her face at 8 pm. I think though, this year the program has stepped up by offering great recipes and along with so many other corporations are going for the "better health in america goal".

Well, not to be a thorn in anyone's side here, but I've got 2 kids, 2 dogs, a minivan, running to hockey practice, and friends house, with a full time job (that requires me to travel from time to time) and still find time to eat healthy fresh options and exercise.
The obesity problem in this country stems from countless excuses of "not having time" to be healthy. Rather than companies and media trying to help solve the problem by encouraging time management skills, or truly healthy options that aren't too difficult, they cater to the excuses by putting "quick fixes" into place. That way the American public can THINK they are doing a good thing since they are "too busy" to be healthy. You never hear anyone say "I'm too busy to shower, I'm too busy to sleep, I'm too busy to love my children". EVERYONE is busy, and if something is important enough to them, they will FIND A WAY to make it happen. Period!
I prepare meals on the weekend to last through the week so that I have time for other things. I go to the gym at "too early o clock" before work so that I can be with my family after work. I get in a walk over my lunch hour instead of going to McD's. I make sure that the hotels I stay in for business have a lap pool or fitness room so that I can still exercise on the road. If you want it bad enough, you will MAKE it happen.
Sorry to go off on the tangent. The "American's are too busy to be healthy" excuse is just a big hot button for me. :) Not to mention, incorporating truly healthy options into everyday life, not only helps the person trying to lose weight, but also helps teach and set the stage for their children (who cause them to be too busy) to lead healthier lives as adults.

In this day and age of 'busy' (despite all the technological advances to make life easier - ha!) we must remember we can and have the ability to say one word. One word that will allow time for ourselves, others (friends and family) and lessen the amount of 'busy.' Remember, for the most part, I feel we bring 'busy' on ourselves because we don't want to let anyone down or we want to be a 'team player' and all that mumbo jumbo.

What's the word? "No." "No, sorry, I'm spending time with my family." "No, I'm at the gym." "No, (fill in the blank)." Try it. It won't hurt. The first time is the hardest.
