I'm trying my best to stay on a healthy diet but every once in a while I'll get a craving for something chocolate...for sweets I've been eating fruit, and yogurt w/granola. It works most of the time, but sometimes only chocolate will do. Do you eat chocolatey protein bars or what? And what are the best ones to buy?

Hi Tanker1,

I'm new here, too, but I am a semi-reformed chocoholic. When the sugar-free Jell-0 and non-fat yogurt don't cut it anymore, I make a chocolate protein shake. We can always use an extra boost of protein, and most MRPs have fairly reasonable fat and carb counts. If you make a shake in a blender with ice cubes, it's thick like a chocolate milk shake - maybe not as tasty, but it helps get you through the tough times.

Sometimes fitness mags and supplement web sites will advertise for a free sample of their protein powder. Keep an eye out for those samples until you find one you really like. Then keep a 1-pound or 2-pound container handy for those chocolate cravings.

Best of luck to you!

If you get really bad cravings for chocolate, go ahead and treat yourself to one every once in a while. If you are good with your diet the occasional candy bar won't hurt and it will keep you from binging. Trust me on this one. I have a mega sweet tooth and it drives my husband crazy cause I eat a lot of healthy foods and always have my candy.

So true Lisa........ I still eat candies once in a while and I never put on any weight because my "normal" diet stays clean.

i have found that instead of keeping candy bars around the house, i have some of those miniature hershey candies. if i get a craving, i grab one miniature and eat it and it goes away. it is amazing how just that little bit will do the trick, i never have the urge to go and grab more.

if you feel that it may be a weakness for you there are tons of mrb (meal replacement bars) out there that are just sinful my favorite is EAS Energy bar Chocolate Fudge. it takes away the craving for chocolate and sweets.

good luck!

Dark chocolate - as long as it contains at least 70% cocoa, then its actually meant to b good 4 u!

IF you want a protein bar with chocolate, I recommend Detour Protein bars. They are awesome. If you eat them a little cold, they taste just like a snickers. They are coming out with a bar called "U-Turn". It's supposed to taste just like the Milky Way bars!!

Have you ever had a look at the "Looney Spoons" cook book? If you ever need some actual chocolate, there are some really amazing recipes in there. They are all low in fat and taste really good.

my sweet tooth is with chewy, sugar-filled candy. skittles, and fruity mentos. but since i've been eating grapefruits and drinking plenty of water i haven't had as many cravings. grapefruit has the same affect on candy as brushing your teeth does to orange juice. it's not very pleasant. good subs for chewy sweets are raisins, craisin, and prunes. but when i gotta have it, i don't deny myself b/c otherwise i'll end up eating too much when i finally do let myself have it.

I,like many others on this page, have HUGE cravings for chocolate. I don't keep any around the house...but fsimmons is right..you shouldn't strictly deny yourself becuase everytime, I GO OVERBOARD!! Also...anytime I have craving for anything not-so-good for me...I drink a tall glass of water right away. That kind of fills me up and helps take the craving away. ANother tactic I use to change my own mind about eating something 'bad' is to think about how awful I felt the LAST time I did that (went overboard) and it usually changes my mind.... USUALLY :)

Zone Perfect bars come in all kind of chocolatey flavors.
210cals., 7fat gms., 20 carbs, 15 pro.
Another favorite treat for me is a 98% fat free Klondike Slim-a-Bear ice cream sandwich with 130 cals, 1.5 fat.

Hey,

Try a detour bar.. good protein bar.. comparable to a snicker bar (no joke). Something like 390calories, 32g protein, 21carbs, 6g (sugar), and 3g fat?? Something like that..

Or try Healthy Choice IceCream Sandwich.. do not taste bad

I make my own protein bars and chocolatey snacks. They are all high in protein, very low in fat and much, much cheaper than buying protein bars! And at least you know what's in them - unlike p.bars which lie!

Try mixing chocolate protein powder, unsweetened cocoa, and bit of silken tofu or cottage cheese. Blend this up and it tastes like a chocolate pudding! Just one of the many things I use to get over a chocolate craving.

I am a huge chocolate addict as well. Ever since I started on the program here, I have refused to have junk food in the house.

When I get a craving, I go to the convenience store and get a single piece of chocolate. This ensures that I don't eat too much of it, but it gives me the taste and satisfaction.

I've never seen detour bars. I'll have to check that out.

Cottage cheese and chocolate just doesn't sound good. LOL! I did get a recipe for protein bars though! I'm going to try it out and see how it works....hopefully it will be my fix for a chocolate craving. :)

Fat is not the enemy in chocolate, sugar is. So if the food is low fat, chances are they jacked up the sugar content to compensate. Some low fat foods have more calories than their regular fat counter parts.
I can attest that those detour bars are fantastic. Unfortunately there was some reason that I didn't order a box. I'll see if I can remember why.

hi this is my first post. even i heard dark chocolate is good 4 u. but here's the deal..its OK if you eat some chocolate every now and then(not too much of course), but make sure u exercise in order to burn off the extra calories.
whatever anybody says about whats good and whats bad it finally boils down to CALORIES GAINED VS CALORIES BURNT. obviously, if you burn less calories than you take in, then your bound to gain weight, and some of that is BOUND to get stored as fat. so its tough, if u wanna look your peak without taking in any steroids, you've got to know your boundaries...thats the price u should pay to have an exceptional looking body.
whos with me?
