65% of your max HR is 109. If you are at 104 that is pretty good. But like Uncle Chalie said, check with your doc before doing any exercise if you are on meds.
The formula is as follows:
220-(your age(52))=168 in good shape 85% of that is good but in your case, I took 65%.
Again get advise from your doctor, as I don't know your state of health, and this is only a guide.

I can't remember the formula but somebody will. You can search heart rate on fit buddy at the bottom of the page and turn it up. I know carivan has posted it a few times.
I still think I'd ask my doc. I'm a geezer so I'm careful that way.

I am on medications for blood pressure and am having trouble getting my heart rate up during cardio. I heard that the meds will keep it lower, so how much lower is acceptable? I am 52 and can achive 104 for the 20 minutes, is that good enough or should I push harder? Example of exercise is treadmill @ 3 miles per hour with the incline at 8. Hope this is enough info for an answer.
Thank you, Debbie

Drieman, i think that's a doctor questions since meds are involved.

I guess I should have just asked if the 104 rate is a good enough workout?
Don't want anyone to play doctor here.

Thank you Charlie & Carivan, that is what I was looking for. I just want to do this all correct and one of my goals is to be off meds one day.
And, I will ask my doctor!

I would think you could speed it up a little, maybe to 4 or 5 mph, but I ain't yer doc. Just watch you HR and be sure to hydrate. Drink lots of water. Those meds can drop your bp pretty low if you are dehydrated from exercise, but check with a medical professional. Sounds like you are on you way to your fitness goals!
