I apologize for my ignorance and for the people who have no mercy for the ignorant people of the world... God loves all his children..

I would like to take a moment of prayer for those hostages in Afganistan.

I only posted that because of what I read from a site that sells bench shirts and give instruction about how to use the bench shirt properly. There is not just 1 kind of bench shirt but many kinds and thicknesses. Now you are gonna say don't believe everything you read... Right But from watching the video on the WRB in the 56kg. class I was convinced at what I read..

I did not know anything about that signature. I thought it just posted your name... This will be my last post on this site. But I will not stop visiting it...

Ryan Kennelly Takes WPO Stars Of The Bench
July 28, 2007 - 5:50pm

Ryan Kennelly benched 1,036 pounds today at the WPO Stars of the Bench in the Ukraine. That gave Kennelly the win and the new All-Time Record in the bench press. Kennelly surpasses Gene Rychlak's 1,010 pound effort.

Rob Luyando benched 903 pounds which is a new All-Time Record in the 242 pound class, besting his own mark. Luyando hit his 850 pound opener, 881 pound second, and missed a 921 pound fourth attempt.

Scot Mendelson benched 986 pounds.

he's still the man no matter what. I think the raw record is a lot more prestigious.

I've come to think that World record bench press is just a big something; I don't know the words for it..
Raw bench press is the only way to go. I see guys and girls weighting 150lbs. benching 500lbs. With a bench shirt.. What does that tell you...huh... 500lbs. after a group of people lifted it off the bar I would proceed to be crushed into the foundation.. I never even seen a bench shirt in real life but I'm sure after I learned how to use it and alittle practice. I'm sure I could bench well over 500lbs. myself... It would take alot of nerve to get me under 500lbs.

Dave,
A bench shirt is fabric. Nothing more. Just because one wears a special shirt does not mean their lifts are invalid. If you, or even I for that matter, tried benching in a shirt I will guarantee we would lift less than usual. The feel of the movement is different from what I understand, for I have never worn one myself. Try it - you'll see...

Is the idea of bench shirts to protect the shoulders or bench more weight.

And more importantly, what do I care how many inches your stomach measures at the navel?

well none of you can deny that people bench more in a bench shirt than they do raw. I personally think that the person is who benches more raw is actually the stronger bencher as it is more natural.

Dave as much as I support raw powerlifting....coming here and making yourself look like an utter tool doesnt further the argument of raw powerlifting as better ...

The amount of weight top PLers get out of their suits literally takes years upon years of training. Sure Kennely/Rychlak get 300-350lb out of their shirts however you wont even come close to this...you'll be lucky to get 50-75 lb out of your shirt with a couple years of training...there's a lot to learn...including positioning/groove/etc...

I am amazed what you said came from a 26 yr old....I'd have guessed 15...

So uh....are we supposed to be impressed by your stats? or was their some other purpose you provided it on a strength/power forum?

Why don't we all settle down, guys. Let's keep the critiques professional, and keep the personal attacks out of it.

Thanks.........

You;re still making little or no sense. Your points are very poorly stated. You also have a poor concept of what geared lifting is all about.

Dan just as a suggestion I'd put your stats in your profile and leave the signature blank or put something else there.

you got your information from an advertisement. In that case, I've got a great product that will help you drop to 8%bf and build 10lbs of muscle in 2 weeks.

of course if I am selling a product, I am going to tell you I think it can "add 50 lbs to your bench". That doesn't mean it will. Yes, at some point this does get out of hand, but this comes to preference.

Of course geared lifters are going to lift more than raw lifters, that's obvious. But youre not going to put one on and lift more weight. It's a totally different animal.

If anything you'll put one on, and bench less, if you can even get weight to touch your chest. It will take you months to get the feel, years to get the technique, and decades to build the strength.

Maybe it's just total ignorance and/or stupidity on my part, but I'm not impressed- really at all- when I watch that.

To be honest, I'd rather watch Pemdas meet lifts than that.

The bar travels seemingly no distance because of the huge arch in the back/bein fat as he is. I realize the lift was totally within the rules, but I don't really care--I guess I just mean as a whole, if that is what most powerlifters strive to be like, I don't really understand why.

I mean no disrespect, and I realize the dude's throwin some huge poundage. He obviously does great at what he does, so I'm gonna shut up now...just had to vent a little
