Hi Everyone,
I just wanted to introduce myself. I am very new to the whole "working out" concept. I never had to before, and was in fairly decent shape just naturally. Since I had my baby though, my weight has become an issue. I'm very excited to be doing something proactive about it, and will probably be asking lots of questions along the way. The first one I have is about the exercise plan I got. It says to do different reps in different sets. My question is am I supposed to go down the entire list of exercises and do the top reps? Then start over and do the next number of reps and so on until I've gone through the list 4 times? Or am I supposed to do one set of an exercise, then the second set of that same exercise and so on until I complete all four sets, then move on to the next exercise?
Sorry for such a wordy introduction - but I'm really looking forward to taking control back of my weight. I think I found the right place to do it.

Welcome Amanda. Who ever said that having children is a "beautiful thing" never saw the cellulite left over afterwards! ha ha. Just kidding, from one mom to another.
Regarding your exercise question, you will want to do all of the sets of one exercise, resting for about 30 seconds in between each set before moving on to the next exercise. If you are on the "weight loss" type program, the first set is usually a high number of reps, then decreases with the following sets. I usually use the first set as a "warm up" using moderatley heavy weight (usually about 5 lbs. less than my regular set weight) then will add weight for the following (usually 3) sets.
Please keep in mind that as you do these reps, you need to move slowly. If you bust through them as quickly as you can, you are not getting the weight workout you should be. I will typically count in threes. For example, when I'm doing a bicep curl, I'll take three counts to lift the weight up, will pause in a lifted "flexed" state for another count of three, then will count to three as I release. I don't really count anymore, I just "feel" what speed I need to go, but it sure helped me learn! I'm not sure if anyone else does this, or does it differently, but it worked really well for me. A trainer taught me several years ago.
Good luck and keep coming back. The people here are great!
