For a 175 lb male, what is a good amount of sodium to have in your daily diet? Thanks all.

There is no RDA for sodium. We get enough in our daily diets without having to add. When sodium does go low, like after intense sports activities, one might have to replace it with a gator aid or something like that that. when your sodium numbers go to low, it throws off all the other electrolyts in your body. That is a rare incident.

There is a big knock against sodium, and I think most of this stems from media, warning against hypertension and blood pressure reasons. If you have any of the warning signs or have either now, then lower sodium is in order for you. On the other hand, sodium is actually a great transport for minerals and nutrients. Without going into too much detail, the sodium/potassium pump is your freind. So if you have no problems, then I wouldn't worry much about it. Do not oversalt your food or anything like that, as Carivan mentioned, there is usually plenty of sodium these days in prepared foods. Just you will not have to be concerned about it.

I never really worry about sodium intake living in the desert, especially in July!
