Gym addiction...normal?

So I went to the gym today for the first time in my life. I did the fitness plan I printed off of here, and I felt
$%@#ing awesome afterwards! I felt like I was on drugs or something...I told my husband people shouldn't be allowed to drive after they work out because you just feel so...high!

So I drove by the gym tonight on the way back from the store, and I had the urge to go back in...at 9:30 pm! I din't, but I plan on going back tomorrow A.M. for some cardio...maybe 20 minutes or so, and then back again for the nromal routine in the afternoon. Is this feeling normal, and is going twice a day safe?

That's fantastic, for those who go regularly it really can become an addiction.

Be careful though that you don't burn yourself out too quick by going twice per day too often.

Ya... I find it addicting... but, as ecle5c says, don't get too carried away or you'll burn out.

I miss it already. I'm on holidays.... but I need the rest.

I am so addicted that I will see a gym in another city and want to stop to workout. It is a high that is great, but as the other two have said, pace yourself....burnout is common with newbies...Good luck!

For me the night before squat day is like Christmas Eve when I was a kid. All I want for Christmas is 5 more lbs.

Thanks for all of the responses! Ok, so gym addiction is normal, but I can burn out...so if I do 15-20 minutes of cardio in the AM and then come home, but go back to do the PM full workout,

#1 will I burn out, and should just skip the AM cardio?

#2 is there any real benefit to doing 15 minutes of cardio and then coming home, or am I just wearing myself out for no reason?

I'd skip the AM gym time. If you need to do something go for a walk/jog outside while it is nice.

What kind of cardio are you doing? What intensity level, or how much do you really push youself?

Assuming you're eating right as well you shouldn't wear yourself out.

Yeah, it's pretty normal. However, don't push yourself too hard since you are just starting. Like everyone above mentioned, it can lead to burn out for newbies. I did that for a while, got addicted and went a couple times a day then would do abs at home, feeling just like you did yesterday. After a couple weeks I had no desire to ever go back. You must find balance. There is no reason that you can't do your cardio and weights at the same time if that is the timing you have available. I can only work out once a day in the morning so I do a 5 minute treadmill warm up, followed by my weight lifting, followed by 30-45 minutes of cardio. I continue to see good results with this routine. Although, keep in mind that I worked up to that amount of cardio and weight training. Start out easy and work your way up. Good luck to you!

ecle5c - I live in Arizona...excercise outside in peak summer in 115 degree weather is suicide. I am excited, but not insane, lol! I am doing elipticles (sp?) but I have never worked out in my life until now, and I smoke 1/2 pack per day, so my endurance is crap. I went in this morning and had a staff member/trainer show me how to work it. He said in my condition to do about 4-5 minutes...I did 7 and felt like my legs were gonna give out when I got off...I hope I am dooing it right...it is a really weird machine and seems like it takes co-ordination ( which I lack) or at least some practice. 30 -45 minutes of cardio sounds great, but I wanna get to where I am not counting down the SECONDS at least! :)

Me and my hubby go at the same time, but he does his own thing, and we bring both kids (10 mo. and 2 1/2) so I can work out for 1.5 hours TOPS.

I did talk to a trainer today who helped me with some excercises I didn't know how to do, and what he basically told me was that I can do a bunch of cardio, lose weight, and plateau like most people. OR, I can do a little cardio, weight train and work on my core and lose the weight less pounds at a time, but more consistantly.

By the way, I do eat healthy...I think. We buy as much organic as we can find, and lets see...today I had 4 organic egg whites, 1 piece of organic wheat toast, 1.25 cups of organic 2% milk, .25 cup of cashews, 1/2 tuna sandwich on organic toast with .25 cup of broccoli sprouts, a weight watchers salad at applebee's, 12 of a cliff bar, EAS protein shake, and a Boca burger patty with provolone on top...water all day. This is not anything abnormal from my everyday diet for the last 2 years except for the protein shake.
