 I get on the treadmill and can NOT get my heart rate over 108. Incline is at 10 and speed at 3.4 for 45 minutes. I know it is due to the heart meds but I wonder if I am getting the results I need.

How do you feel when you are on the machine? Can you hold a conversation? You should be able to with a bit of effort. Try increasing the speed or try a different type of machine. Sounds like you might be bionic!

LOL bionic? I have been told some of it is because of the heart meds but that is a good idea, maybe another type of machine.

I did audition for the bionic woman though! hehehe

Bill,
I am on Tenoretic and Lotensin for high blood pressure.
I am hoping I can get off them as soon as I am in shape.

BTW, the wine is ok if red, maybe one glass but the cheese is not so good. LOL

Drieman, I was on verapamil and lotensen for my first year here. After a year my quack changed me to lotrel...only one pill, a step in the right direction. I at least now stay at 110/68 on BP with a resting heart rate of 54. Keep up the good work.

Maybe you could increase speed a little. How about 4.5 on the treadmill. The eliptical machine is very good for getting your heart rate up to the optimum rate.

drieman - you will need to go by rate of percieved exertion, not heart rate. So - you should be working hard enough that it would be difficult, but not impossible, to carry on a conversation, but not so hard that you are gasping or out of breath.

You will still get results, it is just that your meds are heart rate suppressors, I think.

Got it, I will go a little faster and that should bring up my percieved exertion up for sure, I am almost at the point of the conversation being a bit difficult but belive I can kick it up a bit more for great results!

Thanks all, Debbie

On my way to the gym right now!!
Gotta love this!

Went to 3.8 and an incline of 9 and got my rate up to 112 WOW lol, well it is going to have to be good enough for now. I could not carry on a conversation so I hope it is working. I will just have to keep trying and this morning I will try the eliptical.
